Personally I hate, despise, and criticize ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, etc., as much for their emotional intonations, and what they fail to say, as for what they do say.

But I would never cotton to the Army or a mob taking over their facilities as is done in some countries of South America.

So the Fairness Doctrine was unconstitutional?? That would depend which party controls the SC.

Not true. You're confusing lies and gross distortions with facts. That is a symptom of watching only right wing propaganda.

The fairness doctrine is complete bravo sierra. It's government interference in free press.

The Constitution has nothing about fair press, and there never has been such a thing at any time or any place in the USA.

It only says freedom of the press.

The only thing that could and eventually did stop the Berkeley Barb was that they couldn't make money.

It's going to stop my local newspaper also, as they mainly buy national feeds and burn little shoe leather getting local stories. There's just very little in it to interest local people other than the obits.

And Fox's criticism of Obama was unrelenting for the entire 8 years of his Presidency. Not sure why you have a problem with CNN or even MSNBC considering that

Tell ya what, my progressive friend ... First, let's just repeal the First Amendment (It's too much of a problem standing in our way.)

Then, let's both take a couple of cushy government jobs (six figures, at least) as censors. You censor Fox. I'll censor CNN.

I don't like the term "censor", though.

"Truth enforcement"? Nah, sounds sorta North Korean.

"News quality service"? That has a more positive, softer sound to it.

We need a name, Kode. Help me here, please.

I don't really have a problem with any of them. I understand them all. I know what I'm seeing and hearing any time I'm on any of their channels. My only "problem" is censoring only Fox. I say, repeal the 1st Amendment, and censor them all.

    Yay! :clapping:

Such a possibility finds safe harbor only in the minds of those who care nothing for the Constitution, the rule of law, or America.

Something has been working on you, if you really believe that crap you just posted, and it's not Fox.

Like any good Fox addict, you are confusing factual and biased reporting with reporting of biased lies. MSNBC said a few things critical of Obama, but not enough. Yet the reporting they did was factual. Can't say that for Fox.

Well, as you know, we shouldn't eliminate the First Amendment even though it is being tested. Instead, it should be somehow required that an opinion show call themselves just that, and that a news show should be "fair and balanced" by requiring equal time for opposite reporting of facts. Then all we need is some reliable means of broadcasting an objectivity analysis of news reporting.

    LOL

    Ok, got me there.

But of course, you know I was referring to MSNBC's controlling parent, NBC, which was prominently mentioned in the analysis and commentary you didn't spend any time with.

Don’t be a stick in the mud. Full repeal is necessary.

Wow. Sounds a bit like anarchism regarding speech. That or extreme right wing call for censorship like NK has and China has/had.

So, who would decide what is "fair and balanced".

When the MSM misrepresents a story, or takes comments out of context to push a narrative, is that just reporting, or would it be subject to a scoring system, subject to sanctions if violations of the new code be violated?

It's all opinion and entertainment now. There's nothing remotely similar to actual news being broadcasted or written at the present time, nor was it ever so at any time.

Nothing can be required of "news" companies other than FCC licensing and the proper business licenses to operate -- and even that can be abused and become interference in freedom of the press.
