At the end of 2016 Russia had still the biggest nuclear arsenal [7290 Russia, 7000 US ... wiki page in Italian, sorry ... scroll down to the chart https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stati_con_armi_nucleari] and as for I know it's a Russian bomb the most powerful: the Czar. So Russia should reduce first, according to your approach to the matter. Anyway, keep in mind that both the powers have got enough nukes to disintegrate all the surface of the earth and several times ... those arsenals are actually a bit excessive!

Your assertion about weak powers in anti-historical: it's not a long time that "weak powers" have got nukes. And pay attention that India is nto a weak power. The same for Pakistan ... they are still minor regional powers, but they are growing. Probably, historically, the first real weak power to have nukes is just NK.

North Korea is not exactly reliable with nukes, anyway I don't see why they should destroy their atom weaponry, what I'm saying [we are discussing a possible strike against that country] is that the first thing to do would be to take over that little nuclear arsenal, impeding them to use it.

 

Pointing at an other countries track record does not change a thing about the awful trackrecord of the US.

 

That will result that Russia and China blow up the entire US navy, and the complete destruction of Seoul with it's millions of people, and a possible nuclear bomb on Japan and Guam.

...would be supremely stupid. If the CiC initiated a preemptive strike, it would top Bush's invasion of Iraq as the biggest military blunders in over 50 years.

 

Is any of that less likely to happen after we let kim build his nuclear ICBM arsenal and threaten the United States too?

I guess I just can’t agree with most people on what to do about NK.

Once they got nukes, they entered the world of mutually assured destruction. They like to threaten and bluster and show off their icbm technology but they can’t ever use it. Doing so would be suicide. The first moment NK launches a nuke the short coundown timer starts. At the end of that timer NK gets transformed into a sheet of glass.

Fat boy knows this. He’s evil. He might even be crazy, but he isn’t suicidal. There’s nothing more important to a man like him than him. He will never take an action that is certain to result in his death and he will never take an action that destroys his regime.

In my opinion we should be absolutely ignoring NK. No matter how developed their nuclear arsenal becomes, they will always be committing suicide as soon as they use it. There’s no reason for us to pay attention to them. They have nothing else to offer the world.

 

Translation: The US should have nuked the Russians before they built up their arsenal. WWIII in 1950 would have been smaller than WWIII in later years.

Anyone who advocates the United States start wars is going against every principle of our Founders and totally negating Reagan's idea that the United States is a "shining city on a hill".

I think its pretty clear that much like hitler, kim does not care what happens to his country after he is gone and would willingly take millions of others with him as a parting gesture

There are also geo political considerations to allowing china to be the sole and undisputed ruler of asia

Really? It’s clear? Because we know so much about the internal politics of the hermit nation and we know all about the motivations of Kim?

I know our media has portrayed him as a bloodthirsty unstable psychopath, but is he really? Or is it a persona put on to convince the western world to capitulate to his demands by convincing them he might launch when in reality he absolutely wouldn’t?

I’m suggesting we call his bluff by refusing to act. Make him put his money where his mouth is. Refuse to be taken hostage by his threats.

Whether he strikes first or we strike first makes very little difference. If we attack first he will still be able to strike back before dying.

In other words, what is the rush? He’s locked in and the only move he can make is suicide. Unless we furnish him with more moves by responding to his attempts to hold us hostage.

They have as much to lose in a war with the US as we do

If north korea is able to threaten the USA with total nuclear destruction at the push of a button that will have negative consequences for us
