The Swedish government are posting an investigation into the rising crime levels in Sweden, nothing is as yet linked to immigrants either Muslim or otherwise. When the investigation reports we shall know, until then I think that some Swedes are emulating the gang and gun culture we see on american TV programs each night!

Your concern has gladdened my heart, but I think your efforts may be best used on some other posters on the forum!

it didn't look ignorant to me. My city a few months back was inundated with water I bet it was a proverbial drop in the bucket compared to how much water is on the planet it's not about percentages. It's about ability to cope.

I fear it's an unarguable fact there wherever there are Muslims there's trouble. Apart from tiny havens dotted over the planet - who would know for sure? - who can dispute it? The trouble in Myanmar is because at their customary birthrate they were beginning to outnumber the local inhabitants.

The Swedish situation is actually very interesting.

One of my favorite online commentators is a Swedish-raised Muslim (by heritage) immigrant, now living in the US. (His blog is often in Swedish, but sometimes in English.) Read about him here.

On the other hand, no one with eyes in their head can believe all Muslim immigrants to Sweden are like this fellow.

So what's the real situation: rampant crime and violence, growing weekly? Or just the usual crime and violence you might expect in any country, including the Swedish socialist paradise? Are Muslims in their great majority integrating into modern European democratic culture, or are significant numbers of them becoming a hostile, anti-Western enclave -- combining ordinary violent crime with a quasi-ideological justification for it?

It's hard to find out, because everyone lies and exaggerates. No one comes to this problem with a neutral viewpoint, and almost every report you read can be accused of selective citing. Hard line Righties won't acknowledge any progress, hard-line Lefties won't acknowledge any problems.

If you don't know anything about the difficulty of comparing social statistics among different countries, where the same word is likely to be defined differently, where statistics are collected differently, then this article is a good place to start..

Another source is the leading conservative journal in the US, National Review, whose take is here. At the moment, I think National Review's summary is the most reliable thing I've read.

 

Let us consider that there is not on fact in either one of the stories you posted that suggest the conclusion you are drawing.

Let us also consider that, other than one piece on Reuters, which is a news aggregator, there is not one story on this topic that comes from any source other than anti immigrantion media, the Russians (who are obviously flogging this story hard to the xenophobes in the US useful idiot right wing) and Rupert Murdoch (same reason).

Even with the "explosion" in gang violence, there were only 300 shooting incidents in a country of 10 million people, and incident rate far lower than all but the most remote portions of the United States.

 

Having an honest discussion about crime in Sweden is not the objective here.

But stories like this one are being promoted on sites like the Local Sweden (which is actually not Swedish, and Russia Today, the overt clearinghouse for the ongoing Russian led campaign to divide Russia's rivals and sow discord and chaos. OF course, the same right wingers here , who fell for RT's propoganda and marketing campaigns before and during the 2016 election, are eating up these stories, which are designed for bigots and xenophobes.

Interesting the National Review is along the same lines as the information I received from a member of what Sweden describes as a Organised Crime Organisation. Basically the weapons are coming from the Balkans, Serbia in particular and the motivation appears to be a copy of US gang culture as portrayed by TV. There is a lot of resistance to changing the culture of Sweden, particularly any religious rules that immigrants may bring with them, this is spawning a rise in the far right which is seen as a fertile recruitment for gangs.
