Lately, (post Golden Globes) the trend line seems to be heading toward: Picture/Director - Three Billboards Actor - Oldman Actress - McDormand S. Actor - Rockwell S. Actress - Janney Of course, things can change. But, that Big Six is where the conventional wisdom is trending. Obviously, Sunday Night's SAGs are gonna tell a lot. Thoughts?
Slight change in conventional wisdom. Three Billboards wasn't nominated for Director. If Del Toro (The Shape of Water) wins Friday night at the DGAs, he is probably a lock for BD. The 4 acting categories remain solid. BP is a race between Three Billboards and The Shape of Water.
It's just that I can't understand what possible interest these awards shindigs can hold for anyone who isn't part of the industry. Maybe I should get a life?
BP - The Shape of Water BD - Del Toro BActor - Oldman BActress - McDormand BSActor - Rockwell BSActress - Janney At this point, barring an unforeseeable upset, these Big Six are engraved in stone.
Interestingly enough, because of the plagiarism lawsuit against the writers of The Shape of Water, Three Billboards has once again emerged as the potential BP winner. Gold Derby has Three Billboards as a very slight favorite.
What is it YOU always say in everyone elses threads? "So what? Who cares?" Cause and effect, man. Cause and effect. Nah, you have a life. Anyone desperate enough to watch a bunch of trained parrot 1%-ers patting themselves on the back while pontificating about stuff they know nothing about, and wasting hours of their life doing so - now, that's the very definition of someone who needs a life!
Ah well, that's the 'celebrity culture' for ya. But I think now the Oscars is over, that's the end of the brain-numbing red-carpet shindigs for this year - at least I hope so! We now enter the charity telethons season; I'd like to know how much collected actually reaches the nominated charities, and how much ends up in Swiss banks.
I never end up seeing movies that make it to the Oscars with the exception of a movie or two. So if I watch, I have no idea what I'm watching. I haven't been interested in newer movies lately. I did go see Dunkirk in theaters...but walked out of it. The whole no talking thing completely ruined it for me.
