The argument for abortion proceeds from the supposition that the body belongs to the woman, and it's hers to do with as she pleases (along with all the contents that may lie therein) But what if it's not her body? What if there's actually a God and our bodies are not just ours to do with however we please? What about societal obligations? Couldn't it be supposited that the body does not belong entirely to the individual, but rather there are collective rights/obligations that extend to the family, the community, the nation, and, to some extent, the rest of humanity? There are some people who, while they might not believe the existence of God, nonetheless believe in a spirituality of universal Oneness. I'm just questioning the fact that it's "her" body automatically equates to the concept that she should then have complete and total right over that body. Some of you will immediately scream "That's slavery!" But in society, in the world, there is never complete freedom to do whatever you want. You have to pay taxes, you have to abstain from doing things that the consensus has decided is bad for the rest of society. And once a woman is pregnant, there are now two beings sharing the same body.
What if is not YOUR body? Let's just imagine that I need a heart transplant and you are a perfect match. Since you have set the legal precedent that you are not the owner of your body then I can use you as the donor for my heart transplant. You will just have to make do without a heart since you no longer have any rights to your own body.
> What if it's NOT her body? Then I am the Unicorn King of Siam with superpowers than allow me to create Alien sputem that cures cancer and makes bunnies into fish while ending world hunger with an Ancient Egyptian black hole.
I don't especially like the notion that I share my body with my government or 'society'. I think the less government tells me what what I must do with the hands, legs, head, neck, testicles attached to torso that my clothes rest on, the better. I presume women feel much the same way.
OK! MY god says NO cell phones, no tattoos, minimum wage is $27.00, men must shave everyday, and women are not allowed to wear skirts and people who drive slowly in the left lane will disappear into a gray cloud never to be seen again. And when the wealthy need new body parts they can FORCE YOU to give them YOURS... . SURRRRRE ya do BUT you never question """ the fact that it's "his" body automatically equates to the concept that he should then have complete and total right over that body"" LOL! You want "Slavery-Lite" ....just enough "slavery" to control women..... Again, for about the thousandth time : SO WHAT? One being has rights , the other doesn't .
Then the day God makes every uterus perfect, the day every fertilized egg attaches perfectly, the day there is never a miscarriage- that is the day you can get back to me about God caring that every fetus needs to be carried to term. Since that is not the case, and millions of fertilized eggs get flushed every year because of poor design on the “creators” part, I can only assume that God is ambivalent on this issue.
Furthermore, if God has that much control over a human, then he would simply introduce the thought that the woman should keep the fetus to term. Of course, if that is the case, then He could also put in the thought to end the pregnancy if the normal process for natural miscarriage were not functioning ( we have already established the fact that not all reproductive organs are perfectly formed).
Doofenshmirtz, you must abstain from doing things that the consensus has decided is lawful: like preventing women from having abortions. And you don't speak for God.
Once the egg is fertilized by sperm, it is a life which is looking for a host to allow and promote it's development to a point at which the host's body can no longer safely contain it. Once this is realized and accepted, it all becomes more clear. Her body may reject this new life, or it may not. She may not be able to safely carry this new life, as many human bodies are flawed. She may decide she wants to force her body to reject the new life. She may decide she needs a medical professional to remove this new life from her body. It's up to the woman. It is only the woman's decision and therefore her spiritual responsibility, alone. If you are the man, let your opinion be well known. Do not attempt to persuade or force anything. We all answer for ourselves. It is a man's responsibility to choose his partner wisely, to decide whether he wants to take the chance of having a dilemma like this or raise children and grandchildren. Don't think you are free from trouble.
That's an interesting point, about her owning her body I mean. Without over-thinking it it seems to me that she is indeed able to decide what goes on with her body. If she decides that she doesn't want to give birth then she shouldn't be forced to do so. We have laws which make it clear that a woman can refuse to consent to sexual intercourse. Those laws are based on the premise that the woman has sovereignty over her own body. Why should that sovereignty be violated if she is pregnant? If she decides to go full term or she decides to terminate the pregnancy then that is because she is sovereign over her own body. She cannot be forced to get pregnant. She cannot be forced to give birth. The termination process can be circumscribed by law but that law attaches to legally qualified medical practitioners who have knowledge of the medical issues involved. The law controls the doc, not the woman, so there is no inconsistency. If we accept that each of us, as responsible adults, have sovereignty over our own bodies then that applies to a woman who is pregnant. She doesn't lose that sovereignty simply because she is pregnant.
So did you ask God if you could come here and make these statements? I mean if your body belongs to God maybe you should be sure you have permission to speak. I thought the concept of God was that he put people here and gave them freewill.
The screams of slavery would be correct. Thats the inherent problem with collectivism- it innevitably makes each human everyone elses property. Thats why I will not support abortion restrictions (or mandatory vaccinations, forced abortion, forced impregnation, forced surgical procedures, forced 'chipping,' etc). Body autonomy is paramount to individual liberty.
Except you do have absolute body autonomy. The government can’t even make you give up blood (a perfectly renewable resource) against your will. Hell, they can’t even take from your corpse unless you authorized it while you were alive. Essentially you want pregnant women to have less rights than dead people have.
What if it's NOT her body? Then my body is NOT mine either. Your body is NOT yours and everyone belongs to whatever you say they do.
What if it's NOT her body? Then there is no such thing as rights and the American revolution was fought over a scam. Rights are derived from property and the first piece of property everyone is born with is his/her body.
