Oh come now. Aussie aboriginal wars were in no manner comparable to that faced by Certainly you have incidences. But, not 300 years of wars against your aborigines. Gun fight. How about when Tom Selleck takes out Alan Rickman at the end of Quigley Down Under?
No thankfully we didn't slaughter as many and they only lasted about 150 years, but we did have them. The Indians were more prepared, they had to deal with the Spanish beforehand. That's where they got horses from. The Indians themselves were more warlike. Good you've seen Quigley, what about The Proposition? Mad dog Morgan The legend of Ben Hall
An interesting fact I learnt at uni studying Australian Films The first full length narrative film in the world was made in Australia. The 1906 production of The Story of the Kelly Gang, the earliest feature film ever made.
Interesting. I think for there to be a Canada of the Southern Hemisphere, there would need to be a country in the Southern Hemisphere with a leader as ridiculous as Justin Trudeau - which there isn't. There are no leaders down here who would allow convicted terrorists who want to destroy the country to keep their citizenship. There are no leaders down here who lecture people about what language to use such as using the non-existent word, "peoplekind!"
What do you have to do with @Moi621's Australian connection? (I'm still not sure if there is a connection.)
One of the areas outside the town is called Moon Plain. I worked in CP 1973-1975, wild and woolly place back then.
The original pub is above ground, that's the Opal Inn. There is a quite luxurious underground motel with all the facilities, the Desert Cave. Both owned by the same family business. Yes back in those days it was crazy up there. In one memorable night of brawling I lost three uniform shirts and two pairs of pants. I was reduced to patrolling in a white tee shirt and uniform (khaki) pants.
Where does the electricity in Coober Pedy come from? Do they have generators or is there a main supply? And the water?
Where does the electricity in Coober Pedy come from? Do they have generators or is there a main supply? And the water? Anyone know?
Coober Pedy uses a borehole for water and generates it's own electricity from diesel and wind turbines. https://www.cooberpedy.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=115 https://www.cooberpedy.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=114
It's on the mains now. But most of the businesses back then had generators. I do remember a local businessman who trucked in some giant generators for his businesses. I recall it because he was so pleased he took us all to his restaurant. The rest is hazy. I worked in Andamooka for a while back in the early 70s. No mains back then. At dusk you could stand outside and listen to the generators starting up. It was a strangely nice sound, sort of everyone getting comfortable for the evening sound.
Paragraph 1: In tough economic times, it can seem impossible to pay off your debts & get on the property ladder. Here's the inspiring tale of how one regular, average 30-year-old did it! Paragraph 3: They always buy store-brand. Paragraph 8: In 2008 their parents gave them 100k
Oh I can remember when I was young, girls trying to knock my door down ... Sometimes I'd even let them out!
This mornings two bobs worth: My nick here, leftrightleft, could have just as easily been rightleftright. It means I am left of the right and right of the left, or right of the left and left of the right. Six of one and half a dozen of the other. Am I siting on the fence, definitely not, rather in a constant state of flux, seeking equilibrium as we all should be, it's not about an ideology, it's about logic, it's not about gaining wealth, it's about gaining humanity.
You only need money if you wake up tomorrow and have bills to pay. Aside from that it has no real value because beyond a certain point it becomes meaningless. As Bill Gates remarked you can't buy a better hamburger. No one's wealth and possessions are at their grave side mourning their passing. What matters is the love we share and pass along to others. Treating others as human beings does not cost us anything. Standing up against what is wrong is more important than allowing wrongdoing to continue uncontested. Like you I am politically independent because I see the flaws on both sides. As a society we make progress when we find compromises that we all can live with. Finally I do my utmost to eliminate negative emotions from my life. I see them as toxic and corrosive and ultimately doing more harm to me than to anyone else. I much prefer to remain calm and stable and think things through. That is the way to figure out solutions IMO.
