OK, let me be the first to say this probably has no chance at all of ever happening, but then again, I didn't think Trump would win the election and a lot of other people felt the same way.

I'm not sure how your typical liberal Californian would feel about this, would they like keeping their money in their localities and not spend it on the people they deem to be conservative? Or does the prospect of no longer being a political powerhouse concern them to the point of not wanting to lose that influence?

If this ballot measure gets a lot of votes, then you might be swayed into thinking that the liberal politicians out there would get the message and move to the center a little bit. But we all know they won't. They'll fight this tooth and nail, take the money from the people who want to break away and spend it on the very things which are causing some people want to break away.

Stranger things have happened, and you never know, this might work if the GOP can hang onto congress.

"no chance at all of ever happening".

    TRUE.

So why waste a thread on it?

The vote could be 100 % for split up but that does not mean that itvwould happen.

CA is the 8th largest economy in the world (not the US, the WORLD). Why should they want to dilute their power? Also, conservatives are constantly going on about less government, so lets get 2 more of them?

3 more governments, 3x more opportunity for corruption and gridlock.

I have heard there is a historical movement to turn Texas into 5 states. I don't know how many they do for Alaska. . How are they doing?

Is it in your nature to give up on something you believe in without trying? This is a midterm election, that probably means a lot of CA voters won't care enough to vote unless there is something passionate for them in the election. It's just possible all the people passionate about this could come out and vote for it and there's probably quite a few liberals who would vote for it just to not be associated with conservatives.

Like I said, I didn't think Trump would win and he did.

    Totally.

Every Eskimo Fishing Village (in Alaska), with more than 3 igloos, should be it's own state.

I bet Sarah Palin could even get elected Governor in one of them.

That power is a political distinction which doesn't filter down to the guy on the street, and it's the guy on the street who will vote for or against this.

Whatever happened to her? She endorsed Trump early on but I guess Melania wanted no parts of her

I think it will definitely pass. Obama said we have 52 states ... so they will make it 52 states ... then claim Saint Barrack doesn't lie .

Conservatives don't tend to be all that supportive of a one world government. They tend to more often see small government as better realised with decentralised power and many different jurisdictions with as much sovereignty as possible.

I agree emphatically. Where power is decentralised more people can get their ideal government. We can all coexist, but not in a Federal union.

I remember one of our telephone conversations during the '16 election and you asking me if I thought Trump would win and I told you he would. Now I'm gonna tell you that depending on WHERE these splits are at, will depend on this happening. I can see liberals trying to split this into 3 states where the bottom (LA) is one state, the middle (SF) is another, and then the top (red counties) is the third. But I'm not too sure they'll go for it unless the bottom two states get 25 to 30 electoral votes each and the top gets 12 or 13.

Personally, I'd rather see them secede.

I live way up in northern California and I would vote for it. Probably won't happen even if it gets the votes. California has a history of going against what the people want.

No, it was 57. Conservatives can't even get other's mistakes right:p
Yet they often support the small governments being strongly authoritarian.

Assuming most of the people are conservative, which they are not. CA is the home of the "Silent Majority" myth. It is by far the most forward looking of the States and always has been, yet it is also the home to the most hidebound conservatives on the planet who constantly go on about how oppressed they are by the "moonbeams" who support such radical innovations as voting and democracy to thwart the cause of True Americanism.

I am in Los Angeles, so my area would remain blue. While I agree that it has no chance, it does send a message. This poorly managed state should be cut up. The southern part would control the border!

We would call northern CA "The head"
We could call southern CA "The legs"
and central CA will be known as "The Shithole!"

Like when Earl Warren, Pete Wilson, Ronald Reagan, George Deukmejian and the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger were all governors?

That's just b.s. and not even nearly accurate or reality based. Jerry Moonbeam Brown is making California a neo Jim Crow state
and he's done everything possible to make the hordes of illegal immigrants he's welcomed into the state actual voting, benefit receiving
    citizens of this country.

I'm for anything that takes power away from the idiots in Sacramento.
