Gay Alabama lawmaker suggests governor is lesbian; Ivey calls it 'disgusting lie'

Patricia Todd, Alabama's only openly gay state legislator, posted comments on social media Tuesday night suggesting that Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is gay.

Todd, who is not seeking re-election to office this year, posted the comments on Facebookand Twitter.

The Ivey campaign denied the accusation.

"This is a disgusting lie being pushed by a paid liberal political hack," said Debbee Hancock, Ivey campaign spokeswoman. "There is absolutely no truth to it."..........

On May 1, Todd was named executive director of One Orlando Alliance-- a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of LGBTQ individuals and was formed in response to the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. Todd is scheduled to begin that job on June 1.

I am more inclined to make note of the fact that Ivey considers the allegation that she is secretly gay to be a "disgusting lie." In a world that is post Obergefell and post Pulse night club, one would think it more prudent of a politician to refrain from saying that being labeled gay is disgusting.

The GOP put up a child molester as a candidate. The only victims here were the girls & women he preyed on. For those of us who have long wondered how low GOPers would sink Alabama gave us an answer - even child molesters are OK as long as they talk about God a lot and hate all the right people.

To be fair, enough GOP voters found their moral centre to deny Moore a Senate spot that a department store dummy running for the GOP would probably have won. So kudos to those people. I would say shame on those who continue to defend him, but clearly they are incapable of shame.

 

Most of the people who are 'disgusted' by this were only upset by the Pulse shooting because it was a Muslim. Had it been a Christian they would have fudged & talked about the 'wages of sin' or blamed gay people for not liking guns.

Claiming a person has done something they have not is wrong, but claiming someone is gay when they are not is only going to have an impact if that person relies on the votes of people who will not vote for someone they think might be gay. You'll have to forgive me if I have limited sympathy for someone who relies on a voter base that bigoted. Its like getting upset because someone claims you and African-American who is 'passing'. Maybe if the GOP wasn't so determined to demonized homosexuals this wouldn't matter.

And a total misrepesentation of the facts but typical. The GOP did NOT put up a child molester. They put up a controversial former judge who I once again did not vote for. He was ALLEGED to have engaged in inappropriate behavior 30 years ago but those allegations were withheld until AFTER the primary and AFTER the date the state GOP could have had him removed from the ballot which it would have done. The reason the allegations were withheld was so the Dems could try to take the seat based on unproven allegations instead of on the issues. Not the first time they have done so in this state and now they are attacking Kay Ivy with similar allegations and attempts to smear.

There was nothing fair about what the Dems did but as said, typical. And he was only defended on the fact these are still unproven allegations for which a person subjected to them has no way to defend themselves and then the HIGHLY questionable timing if them. As noted previous Democrats in this state paid a prostitute to lie about a previous GOP candidate to try and smear him.

Now this cheap attempt to create some kind of personal scandal with Kay Ivy.
