I really hope there isn't a strike by the players, but,the more trump keeps tweeting & sticking his nose where it shouldn't be,I fear the players will make a stand on principle now. (no pun intended). That's why I stated in my OP that" every "player should take a knee opening day & no team pay a fine ever---
Let's get back to enjoying the game of football & keep politics out of it! That should be the owners attitude-

I wasn't responding to the notion of opting out. You seemed to be arguing that a company can force you to show patriotism in order to work for them. That is where this was going. Trump definitely wants to see that. He even wants a harmless symbol of protest to result in exile. How anti-American can you get?!?! From the guy in the white house no less. Sickening. This is truly a monster in the making. It is the worst of the worst of patriotism run amok and turned on itself. Any nation that must compel allegiance deserves none.

As long as they aren't forced to participate or suffer any consequences if they don't, I don't really have a problem with that.

I can see this spinning off such that the teams don't come out for the anthem any more at all. Given the extra time to opt out, they will find other ways to use it.

I didn’t know reading your posts was a prerequisite. The owners can do whatever they want as it’s their show and the players can protest, bargain collectively, or unload trucks for a living. I think it would be pretty entertaining to watch the league burn itself to the ground.

That is the most disturbing part of this. Trump used it to help exacerbate a culture war directed at free speech and the right of dissent. Students deny the right of speech to ideological extremists like David Duke or the head of the KKK, and the righties cry bloody murder and wave the 1st Amendment around. Deny a silent act where no hate or slurs or even a word is said, a silent protest against perceived injustices, and the right wing is offended by the silent protest.

    Go figure.

Trump is systematically working to dismantle the Constitution. He didn't arbitrarily make this an issue. He chose it for a reason.

Were he to get elected to a second term, I can guarantee that in a very short time, he will be working to remove the 2-term limit for the office of President. He already praised the Chinese leader for that and said we should do that here.

    But he was just joking...

    Yeah, right.

When you accuse me of something asking you to explain why is relevant.

It isn't the right wing that finds this offensive, it's Americans. What part of the Constitution has Trump damaged or disregarded?

I don't believe the players can strike since there is a mechanism contained within the contract that deals with violations of the contract; in return the players cannot strike unless the NFL violates an arbitration award.

Like you I agree that there should be no politics in sports, unfortunately the reality of the situation is that for whatever the reason it's there and we have to deal with it. In time hopefully it'll blow over and things will get back to normal....on both sides.

Conservatives get mad when athletes don't stand and sing hymns to the flag of their God, the government. They won't put up with this and they'll find another sport to throw their money and which makes them feel good about their idolatry.

This is not a right wing issue, Americans on both sides are offended by these acts which is why these players are taking a knee in the first place. No reaction, no point in doing it. The Constitution is not in play here. It's not a legal issue, it's a private one between employer and employees. When most of these players leave football nobody will remember them again until they get arrested for drugs, domestic violence or murder which explains their vehement defense of thuggery.

By not contributing to the thread topic, which is what you’re doing now. You’re now consumed with why I don’t want to continue to beat a dead horse. Move on.

If it's hurtful to the company, then yeah.

Again, the 1st protects from the federal government. In a private company or small business, you're fair game.

Okay so therefore the NFL can fine its players if when they kneel during the national anthem it causes people not to spectate because it hurts the business?

It is not a violation of the players First Amendment rights correct?

There is not a culture War there is not going to be. Americans are far too indifferent to one another for there to be a culture. I think it's adorable that you think you would go to war over this. War is a profoundly desperate Act.

What we have here can worst be described as a culture Clash. There were a few silly little protests a few people were injured they were largely based not on people upholding values but nihilism.

We don't have sit-ins and riots and marches like we did in the 1960s.

We have people LARPing. That's it. People wouldn't go half an hour without internet access.
