our subject is not the source but who taught it to billions and thus created morality on earth, Now do you get it??
we were talking about 10 commandments??? why do you talk about about silly thinks not related to topic??
dear an element of op does not make it subject of OP?? Did you take 3rd grade reading where the teacher asked you to determine the subject not create random strawman thus tricking yourself into thinking you were scoring points
When Jesus said spit your giving between God and Caesar that split religion and state since Jesus represented God and Caesar represented state. I pride myself I being able to simplify enough for even a liberal to understand.
Jesus taught non violent resistance to the abuses of Roman occupation.. That's what turn the other cheek was about.
Nobody is talking about Matthew. Do you understand? This is not a free association or random strawman game.
well, actually, if Jesus loves you as a individual and for who you are as an individual and gives you commandments to follow as an individual then your individuality must be protected for that entire paradigm to function. Now you can see how Jesus got the ball rolling toward American individual liberty and why we say he was the first Republican.
The Jews hated the Roman coins with the head of Caesar on them.. Graven images and all that.. The men who questioned Jesus in that story were trying to trick him into saying something against Caesar.. He blew them off.. "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's"..
No .. Jesus wasn't the first Republican.. There was NO Republic .. Rome was a republic from 509 BC, and ending in 27 BC .. Then it became the Roman Empire with an Emperor.
cool you are free associating like a liberal and could care less about our subject!! liberals are so cool that way!!
Lots of people have taught morality on earth. There is no question about that. When people go to study ethics and/or morality they certainly do not limit themselves to the Bible - or to Christians, for that matter. When will you get it?
Well, the 10C got mentioned a couple times. You mentioned slavery. So I mentioned it. I don't consider slavery silly.
You said, "He created individual liberty on earth." You claimed this came through the Holy Roman Empire. I pointed out that the Holy Roman Empire went to war in order to DENY people the liberty of choice of religion. They killed people for not having made the "right" choice. Religious liberty, the liberty you pointed to, didn't come until after religion (Christianity in particular) was SEPARATED from government.
I didn't create a straw man. I pointed out that an element of your argument was garbage. You haven't recovered since then.
I pointed out the nonsense of this in an earlier post. I also cited scripture (in Matthew) that is far more to the point. You need to do a better job of understanding the Bible. You can't just make superficial assumptions about what a few words mean. You have to know the context. You have to study what the various meanings are likely to be.
The Matthew quote addresses your idea that Jesus gave us personal rights. It totally trashes that idea. It demonstrates that our duties override even our own safety, let alone rights we might think we have. It argues for a very different translation of the quote about Caesar and (possibly) taxes.
Nonsense. Jesus said NARROW is the way. He said you have DUTIES and not rights. You are even to be ready to turn the other cheek to be hit a second time, to give up your shirt, etc. There is NOTHING about the Republican party of today that would be attractive to Jesus. In fact, Republicans would LOCK HIM UP - even if he managed to enter our country.
Context? Yes... and it helps to pay attention to the times ..Rome was no longer a Republic 27 years before the birth of Jesus.
Amen. Plus, I haven't always been sure that he wasn't referring to the Holy Roman Empire with its relationships of popes and Papal States.
