This conservative would take Obama back in a nanosecond

    How I miss Barack Obama.

And I say that as someone who worked to defeat him: I was a foreign policy adviser to John McCain in 2008 and to Mitt Romney in 2012. I criticized Obama’s “lead from behind” foreign policy that resulted in a premature pullout from Iraq and a failure to stop the slaughter in Syria. I thought he was too weak on Iran and too tough on Israel. I feared that Obamacare would be too costly. I fumed that he was too professorial and too indecisive. I was left cold by his arrogance and his cult of personality.

Now I would take Obama back in a nanosecond. His presidency appears to be a lost golden age when reason and morality reigned. All of his faults, real as they were, fade into insignificance compared with the crippling defects of his successor. And his strengths — seriousness, dignity, intellect, probity, dedication to ideals larger than self — shine all the more clearly in retrospect.

Those thoughts are prompted by watching Obama’s speech in South Africa on the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth. I was moved nearly to tears by his eloquent defense of a liberal world order that President Trump appears bent on destroying.

The first thing that struck me was what was missing: There was no self-praise and no name-calling. Obama has a far better claim than Trump to being a “very stable genius,” but he didn’t call himself one. The sentences were complete and sonorous — and probably written by the speaker himself. (Imagine Trump writing anything longer than a tweet — and even those are full of mistakes.) The tone was sober and high-minded, even if listeners could read between the lines a withering critique of Trump’s policies.

Humor is much appreciated as the work week ends, and the prospect of a sunny weekend by the ocean beckons.

Paradoxically, this article may be above the reading level of the average American conservative.

A bunch of emotional nonsense not grounded in any kind of objective reality? Why would we want to read nonsense?

Obama was an actor. He spoke really pretty but accomplished NOTHING.

Obama never did anything in his life of any importance.

I'm very fortunate. The Pacific Ocean is outside my back door. 60 seconds to the beach.

But you know, there are places in Flyover Country I could see myself living.

    Go figure....

Appeals to (opposition's) Authority are so clever!.....every conservative will now second-guess their opinions about The Messiah....perhaps even conclude that he did, in fact, represent 'a golden age when reason and morality reigned'.

So evidently you are a self proclaimed RINO ?? Seriously, you worked for McCain and you don't know the difference between a true Conservative and a GOP-E blue nose ?

Meanwhile, Trump's IQ is at least 35 points higher than BHO. Come back when you figure out how to, at the very least, make yourself appear to be convincing.

    quoting from the article:

Can you believe that an Obama-era scandal was that the president wore a tan suit or put his feet up on the desk? (Actual Washington Times headline from Sept. 4, 2013: “Obama’s foot on Oval Office desk sends shockwaves around the world.”) Oh, to have those days back again — before we had a president who was involved in indecent relationships with a Russian despot and (allegedly) a porn star.

What was supposedly the worst abuse of power committed by the Obama administration — the IRS investigations of conservative organizations — has been revealed as “fake news”: It turns out that the IRS was also investigating liberal organizations. By contrast, evidence continues to accumulate about Trump scandals, from alleged campaign collusion with Russia to violations of the emoluments clause. Obama may have told a few fibs, like any politician, but he was not a pathological liar.

Fake news but forum right wingers are still under the illusion that it was real news. Thus, further proof that the article maybe above the intelligence level of certain people who succumb to right wing fake news on a daily basis.

Max Boot is not a conservative but a neoconservative, war mongering, nation building, RINO.

I guess you missed the part where he authorized the NSA to record Americans phone conversations.

Blamed Benghazi on a video tape.

Killed more innocent children with drone strikes than Bush.

Assassinated an American citizen with no trial.

Completely bungled the BP oil spill.

Ignoring the veterans crisis which caused some of them to die in waiting rooms.

Completely ignoring the Arab Spring and doing nothing as ISIS came into power.

You have selective memory I guess.

    Max Boot is a hyphenated-American.
To be more precisely a Russian-American, a Russian Jew born in Moscow.

    Max Boot is a neoconservative.

Do you even know what a neoconservative is ? They are liberals who use to be the liberal base of the Democratic party before the radical "New Left" hijacked the Democratic party.

So they fled the Democratic party and came under the GOP tent during the 70's and early 80's and were welcomed by conservatives because we needed them to win the Cold War.

After President Reagan won the Cold War, neocons really have no purpose.

Most conservatives wish that neocon RINO's would go back to the Democratic party and take their party back from the radical left returning to the days of Truman and the JFK Democratic party.

    BTW:
I've read all of Max Boot's books.

How does that compare to traitor Bush who started two needless wars of imperialistic terrorism, killed hundreds of thousands of innocents, did nothing to prevent 9/11, caused the Great recession, initially took credit for the Arab Spring, lowered veteran's care, did nothing to widen health care coverage while thousands died due to lack of coverage, and allowed more foreign service people to die in foreign service attacks than died in Benghazi.

Talk about selectivity ... lol ....

The article isn't about Bush, its about how great Obama was, which he most certainly wasn't.

He was vastly superior to either of your heroes.

After all, if traitor Bush was any good the conservative writer would have selected him for praise which he didn't.

Bush has no part in this discussion, its about Obama being compared to Trump.

And I gave you a partial list of Obama's failures which far outweigh any of Trumps which, for all the whining by the left, really haven't effected a single thing in the real world other than hurt their feelings.

The nation is doing great right now.

Good, he is bringing joy and happiness to people and putting smiles on their faces.

That is a dramatic change from the scowls people had when Obama was president.

Especially Al Qaeda, ISIS, Muslim Brotherhood, MS-13 and most European leaders because when Trump won, all were knocked down in the pecking order of power.
