Even on duck-boats, life preservers should be worn... 'Duck boat' capsizes in Missouri, kills at least 11 - police July 19, 2018 - At least 11 people drowned on Thursday when an amphibious “duck boat” capsized and sank in stormy weather on a lake in Missouri with 31 people, including children, on board, as divers searched for other possible victims, police said.
Why in the world would anyone go out on Table Rock Lake with inclement weather afoot? It's not exactly a small, shallow body of water...
a quick google search would of told them that they have a BAD safty record, who ever is in charge of renting it wasnot conservative and looking out for the safty of the group
I swear these duck boats are like the most dangerous thing tourists can do. You hear about a high death toll accident at least once a year.
commensense is lost in our society most humands now are like leftist they dont think on thier ownself , using the fear factor build into them/us thousands of years our devolpment, we now our dependent on the system or cult mentallty, AI is comming so and will do everything for us , this is a huge train wreak for us all on the horizion
I've seen quotes in the media to the effect that the storm came out of nowhere. That's completely false. The SPC issued watch #283 at 11:20a. The Springfield, MO NWS office issued a severe thunderstorm warming that included the Table Rock Dam area (the approximate location of the incident) at 6:32pm. The initial gust front arrived at approximately 7:00pm and then the storm began microbursting on the area around 7:10pm. They had plenty of warning. That boat never should have entered the water.
So sad. It was a microburst ... a sudden, violent storm. But those things don't just come out of nowhere. There had to be just normal bad weather around also.
https://patents.google.com/patent/US6526900 I remember years ago something about that, emergency pontoons, probably not good enough, but better than nothing. Life preservers! Too sad.
The problem with life preservers in ducks boats is they pin you to the canopy as it sinks. Thats probably why many did put them on. Well its simple....time to ban duck boats.
Won't have to ban, they will get sued into oblivion, if I knew about the patent they must have. Canopy and windows, bad aftermarket...
What pisses me off is this is the kind of stupid crap that we expect to happen in third world or emerging countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Russia, Kenya, or Kapustastan, not here.
I have never undstood this whole Duck thing. The craft was a military vehicle, designed to move a military unit quickly from transport to beach head. Puttering around harbors and lakes loaded with tourists is not what they were designed for. I have never understood how the numbers work either. Ducks have to be difficult to maintain, and their operating costs must be horrendous. Nor are they particularly seaworthy (which is why you only see them on lakes and harbors.). And storms can blow up VERY quickly when you're out on the water.
Death count at 17, a few still hospitalized. 9 of the dead were from one family visiting from Indiana. Very tragic.
There should have been a warning painted on the Duck is 5 languages ( English, Spanish, North Korean, Russian, and Southern) telling the purchaser not to use the product in a manner that it was not design for. Hell we have warnings on spermicidal jelly telling the purchaser not yo put it on her toast. Why not on boats. BTW just kidding!
