This is from oilprice.com. "… hospital supplies are totally gone, the physicians have a pay of two euros a month, and a tin of infant food costs one million Bolivars, if you can even find it. Starvation reigns, especially among infants, the babies arriving dead of starvation at the only hospital, itself not functioning as there is nothing there for the doctors to work with - absolutely nothing. Nothing means nothing, no bandages, no food, no sheets, no elevator, no electricity, zero medications, no anesthesia, nothing. The infants lie three to a bed, until they die." https://community.oilprice.com/topic/3191-starvation-horror-in-venezuela/ The Left says the Right is not interested in the suffering of humanity, I dispute that, but how do we get the LEFT to be concerned about Venezuela? Does it matter? Yes, the Left has a monopoly upon media issues (Vietnam, Civil Rights, Global Freezing, Global Warming, Acid Rain, Nuclear Winter, Gulf Wars, gay marriage, abortion, apartheid, Assange and Snowden, transgender etc..) Recall the idolizing of "Uncle" Mao while 50-80 million people were deliberately starved to death. And the idolizing of Lenin and "Uncle Joe" while 20 million deliberately starved in the USSR. And more recently, the 2 million who starved in North Korea. We could easily see a million children die in Venezuela under Uncle Maduro. Without comment. Unfortunately, the Left will not draw attention to starving children because Venezuela is a Socialist country. And Uncle Maduro and his "government" are not going away. But there might be a way. Who remembers the images of starving children in Iraq? Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. America and UK threatened war. The Left urged sanctions instead. Sanctions are applied. But when children starved the Left took to the streets demanding an end to "Bush's Sanctions." Then "human shields" arrived in Baghdad to defend the most brutal and totalitarian regime in the Middle East. Venezuelan children might provide a political opportunity to the Left. But how to get the Left on-board? Attempts have been made to blame starving Venezuelans upon America. This hasn't been successful. American sanctions are largely against Maduro and his family, plus narco members of his government. Venezuela's oil lifeline to the USA remains intact. But what if Trump did move to sanction Venezuela's oil? What if America launched a blockade of the country? This could be the catalyst for a mass movement to "save the children." I therefore suggest that the USA "own" the blame for Venezuela by applying oil sanctions and a maritime blockade. This will make America look bad, but it will galvanize the Left to mobilize the masses and the media, and legitimize a genuine rescue of Venezuela.
Congratulations on creating a post as poorly constructed as a Chavez speech. Quite the achievement. At least it was shorter. Venezuela is a tragedy and the attitude of many on the left is a disgrace. So is the gloating on the right, but no one expects a shred of compassion there. The right only cares about the unborn.
Good. Let them starve. It’s not going to make America look bad, it’s making the American left look like a group of crayon eaters, they actually tried to put a guy in office that wanted us to be more like them. Stupid people won a stupid prize.
I certainly don’t care. I’m not a part of the “Right”. Venezuela got what Venezuela deserved, a government the people “desired”. Now they’re eating garbage to survive because of that piss poor choice.
I’m not gloating Because what liberal/progressive/socialists did in that country could happen in Ametica someday if liberal/progressive/socialists take power
Yes, you are. RWers scream that abortion is murder then don't give a flying fig how many children die in other countries....although they might try to score some political points standing on their bodies.
VZ had serious problem in the 1980s and 1990s.. Electing Chavez was an effort to turn that around.. and it probably would have worked except the ppb took a dive.
So children are dying and the right doesn't care? What kind of possessed talk is that? Wouldn't it be closer to the truth to say that children are dying and the left is the cause?
A million dead children in Venezuela. That's more than sad. It's criminal, but then who is to blame if not the people of Venezuela. They did this to themselves.
...and Chavez overspent thus killing the economy. Capitalism with a safety net of socialism for the very young, very old and the infirm is the best human society can currently provide. Pure socialism can't work when resources are limited. https://www.vox.com/world/2017/9/19/16189742/venezuela-maduro-dictator-chavez-collapse
Agreed. Plus they went down in flames blaming everyone else, especially the US, instead of themselves.
VZ was upside down before Chavez. I am not defending Socialism, but look at their problems with inflation, healthcare, education etc before Chavez.
Third World countries often have such problems. Socialism looked like an easy out for them, but obviously it just brought them more pain.
Really? Is that why the right gives to charities and blood drives by almost a 2:1 margin? Stay away from straw men, they can catch fire in your face.
Interesting statistic... I have always given to charity and donated blood. I have a rare type so I was always getting calls.
Nat Geo Earth Day Marathon, Manila 2012. The idea was good. Ideas can be great. The problem with the Right is that they don't have great ideas.
They have been trying for years now to change the situation, but the government decided some years ago that the will of the people only matters when it agrees with the government. Venezuelans voted overwhelmingly for an assembly with an anti-government majority big enough to change the constitution. The president replaced it with a compliant body that he controls. There have been mass protests against the government, which has responded with jailing & murder of political opponents.
An excellent example of both "people voting themselves the treasury" and how anarchy turns into dictatorship.
Oh no. We're not gloating about the conditions in Venezula. It's horrible. What we're gloating about are the leftists who want to implement the same policies in the US, and told us so many times that Venezuela was the model government.
We need to help by sending Venezuela contraceptives. It's simple child abuse to bring more children into the world knowing they will suffer.
Why don't we see any big coverage of this in the news? Certainly it's as big of a disaster as what's going on in Syria, and it's happening closer to home.
Because, despite the whining of political extremists, "the news" is a business and businesses give customers what they want. Seeing Venezuelan children dying in the streets apparently isn't what they want. They'd rather hear about Aretha Franklin or how Kevin Spacey's movie bombed. Are you suggesting government should dictate the news? Or do you agree they are free to report whatever they like?
