http://time.com/longform/teaching-i...cial&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=time The thread ran off on me before I could even say something about it!! O.k., someone sent me the link this morning with the message: Sad news! I had no idea it is so bad in the blessed USA. Hasn't Mr. Trump caught up with it yet? It seems to be a problem of some States only. Teachers are always complaining, no matter where they are. It is a stressful job, no doubt. So many kids have ADD and are on various drugs. Kids come from chaotic homes where Mom and Dad are not in harmony anymore with each other. Or there is only one overburdened parent trying to cope. Paying the teachers more money or giving them more benefits might help a wee bit, but I doubt it will make them happier teachers. Any suggestions from the forum readership??
$45K for nine months worth of work is equivalent to $60K per year. If you can't make ends meet with $60K (or $45K) per year you're doing it wrong, and that's not the taxpayers' fault. also, you're borderline obese....maybe trim some off the donut budget, sweetpea.
Well, the crux of the complaints are that teachers aren't paid as much as other comparable professions, mentioned are nurses. Nurses, too, have a stressful and demanding job. Last time I was in the hospital I saw them mainly sitting behind the counter, staring at the computer screen! Patients nowadays get monitored via computers day and night. And they don't come around to wash you anymore either... you get shoved into a shower stall! Technology is so advanced, some guy drives a zambony into your room and takes an x-ray of your organ!!!!! Reminded me of the "King of Spain"... check minute 1:59.... https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...3791146A2F931CD092643791146A2F931CD&FORM=VIRE
I'm probably not going to comment for the simple reason that these threads always turn into rants from reactionary no nothing who recite stereotypes, bash teachers (and learning, in general) and generally know almost nothing about the topic at hand. I am an elected official who has a lot of experience with these issues. But none of that matters to the no nothings who let their AM radio do their thinking for them.
Unfortunately, they love to strike when it hurts the kids the most!! To be fair, they haven't got much choice, it will always impact the kids the most.
You disappoint me! Why be sarcastic when you, as an official with a lot of experience, could contribute some valuable advice and clarifying opinions and enlightening first-hand experiences?
Judging by the number of stupids running around (67 million who voted for Hillary, for example), teachers aren't all they're cracked up to be. which teacher's union?
The teaching profession is definitely the option for the less competent members of college graduates. (As it turns out that is not such a drawback as they don't need to be especially competent to teach children.) That being said many are fine human beings who genuinely care about their students. The major portion of the blame for crappy schools lies with the education establishment (the DOE and the teacher training colleges). I am a non-elected non-official who had a great deal of experience with these issues back in the day. But I see you are content to recite stereotypes as an excuse to not engage with the subject.
Welll... that, I believe, is a subject beyond the teachers reach. You don't want them to be fascists and teach just one ideology, do you? My impression has been that Americans hated Hitler!!!
I would prefer they stick to teaching The Three Rs, basic economics, American and World History....you know, instead of Gender Studies, Victimhood 101, Protesting With Purpose, Establishing and Decorating Safe Spaces, The Merits of Censorship, Lady Gaga's Impact on Social Justice.....
Computer studies is the the basic "R" these days, and you're going to have to pay if you want to hire teachers who actually understand it.
I think they know on some level that they're not teaching kids to be successful, but teaching kids how to be subservient to the established politicorporate elite. Being similarly subservient themselves, I can imagine any decent human would experience a level of distaste in having to follow such a curriculum. The kids know it too, and thats part of why they act out and make the teachers job even less satisfying. There is no easy fix. Our entire society is focussed around subserveience to the elite, ruling class. The most effective, inspiring and apparently content teachers I had promoted a degree of recognition of this dynamic in the classroom and often spent a portion of their time teaching 'off-curriculum.' I would recomend more of that
The money would have to be pretty good to lure the average computer programmer to give up his lucrative career and spend three years getting a teaching credential before getting a job. And my understanding is that public schools are very careless with regards to assigning teachers to their areas of expertise.
Oh yes, I agree with you there! Sadly, nowadays they all work with a little handheld device to do simple arithmetic... no brain work required. Basic economics would be most helpful... just to make a budget is for many young people/couples a big ?
COMPUTERS!! That is the new skill all children have to learn. But it is only good, IF they are taught basic (at least) troubleshooting at the same time! I taught myself how to navigate my way through a forum or email writing. Without my tech support close by and always helping me to get unstuck, I wouldn't be writing here today!!!!
Haha... teachers' competence! Great expression! But that leaves lots of room for manipulation by making the tests easy or fail-proof. Or let the students have an open book at hand during exam writing!
After watching this, I was thinking what a horrible high school to teach at, then I learned this happens at a middle school! Oh hell no. These teachers need Hazard Pay.
