Oh the irony. California the most liberal and "environmentally conscious" state in the union always complaining about wild fires and global warming is also one of the worst polluters in America. You just can't make this stuff up. "Southern Californians might remember the summer of 2018 for its sweltering heat waves, record ocean temperatures and destructive wildfires. But it also claimed another distinction: the summer we went nearly three months without a day of clean air. The region violated federal smog standards for 87 consecutive days, the longest stretch of bad air in at least 20 years, state monitoring data show. The streak is the latest sign that Southern California’s battle against smog is faltering after decades of dramatic improvement." http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-smog-streak-20180921-story.html
Los Angeles has a loooong history of smog. It's sits in a basin, therefore the air does not dissipate like other cities. It is a very large city sitting in a bowl, bad location is the #1 problem. Having said that... it is true that the city also has a long history of relying on personal vehicles much higher than other urban areas.
The impact of forest fires, air currents, and seasonal inversion layers are never part of the equation, when the twin evil brothers of the California Air Resources Board, and the AQMD are joined. Think of the claim the rubes at the LA Times are echoing. Worst in 20 years..... But 20 years ago, things were so bad, the Progs passed AB32, the world's most aggressive environmental legislation. It's ruining the state economically, yet the air was better when it was passed? This is nothing but the first part of the set up to push through the final nails in California's coffin.
Funny part is they are attempting to blame climate change. Couldn't be all those eight lane freeways with bumper to bumper traffic could it? "This is one example of the close ties between air pollution and climate change, which makes meeting air quality standards even more challenging and illustrates the urgency for addressing climate change at all levels of government in the U.S. and globally,” said Barbara Finlayson-Pitts, an atmospheric chemist at UC Irvine who studies air quality."
Thought they were all over public transportation and electric cars in la la Land. Guess it's all talk.
Of course. The frauds running California, and the radicals in the almighty California Air Resources Board, have been pushing unicorns for years. I've been following their actions under a microscope for 20 years. I did this because their actions had an impact on my business. Their actions, and the egregious way they have pushed their regulations through the legislature, with no hope of let up, was one of the reasons I sold my businesses, and I'm pulling every penny out of the state and leaving.
I lived in CA for 21 years and I can tell you that the illegal types don't get their cars smog checked. Another thing I always wondered about is the black smoke coming from the exhausts of school buses. I could never understand why they allow that.
With heavy smog, they may not be able to see the human feces on the sidewalk. We’ll see a rise in slip and fall injuries.
Smog is created buy unburnt fuel. When I was a smog mechanic in the 80s a car that burnt oil and was smoking could pass smog as long as the hydrocarbons measurement was low enough. Diesels don't need to get a smog test and they blow a lot of black smoke. It looks like hell but apparently unburned fuel/Hydrocarbons are low.
Straws: Bad Crapping on sidewalks: OK Fleeing from ICE: OK illegals flowing across the border: OK California needs a change in leadership. The "Jerry Browns" of that state need to be impeached and held accountable.
