You are right... "That's what old people do." Old people can be expected to grow inattentive, unfocused, distracted, and, sometimes, drowsy. But, they shouldn't do so while SITTING AS JUSTICES ON THE SUPREME COURT. Hooray for now-retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, who, at the age of 82, finally realized this....

I'm older, too. As Bob Dylan wrote many years ago, "He not busy being born is busy dying." But when a person is 85 freaking years old, and can't even manage to stay awake during "business hours", they shouldn't be in positions of the highest power in the United States Government!

In short: it's way PAST time for Ruth Bader Ginsburg to retire....

At first blush, I would not object to the idea of a single 10-year term. And, if we also prescribed mandatory retirement for ALL judges (and Justices) at, say, age 75 (MAX), that would probably be a good idea, too....

BTW, Germany makes all of their judges retire at age 65!

If Trump loses, he will claim it was rigged and claim voter fraud.

    He won't leave.

He won't leave the WH until the new Pres is sworn in, and he is forcibly ejected by the Secret Service (on the orders of the new Prez).

Actually, the only president we've ever had in our history who manipulated the system and "wouldn't leave" was the Great Democrat Demi-God, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He was less successful in deliberately trying to pack the Supreme Court with extra Justices who were nothing but his sycophant stooges, but failed in the attempt. But during his slightly-curtailed FOUR TERMS in office, he did manage to saddle the United States with a permanent Welfare State, and accomplished the scheming task with Winston Churchill of getting us sucked into World War II (by deliberately cutting off all oil to Japan -- with which we were COMPLETELY AT PEACE when he and "Winnie" did this). But it did get the U. S. out of the Great Depression when none of his Democrat Party's economic crap did any lasting good. And, hey, it only got about 460,000 American military personnel KILLED....

My guess? Trump will be overjoyed to leave the presidency. It's a major pain in the ass, and it has caused him to lose a lot of money. Truth? He probably never expected to win in the first place!

Then why is he still there?. Aside from you and your ilk, I don't think anyone would cry if he left right now. And I don't think any of the possible offenses he has done would follow him. Why is he risking a really long prison sentence? Trump is one of the very, very few megalomaniacs who have actually BECOME the most powerful man in the world. He's not about to leave, anytime, ever, IMO.

And I don't really sympathise with your pining for a world where the Nazis won WWII, which they almost certainly would have if we had not entered it, much as it proves and illustrates my thesis of where modern Republicanism comes from and why it must be eradicated

And what is it that is going to cause Trump to serve a "long prison sentence", Aleks? From your past posts I have had the understanding that you are MUCH smarter than to say something as witless as that. Mueller has NOTHING on Trump, and no one else does either.

The worst thing that could happen to Trump would be to be hammer-locked with a House dominated by Democrats, in which case the next two years will be an abyss of obstruction and political warfare. But prison? C'mon, Aleks... snap out of it!

And I never did say that I wanted the Nazis to win. Where did I say that? No, what I said was that Winston Churchill and FDR conspired to find ways to get the U. S. into Britain's war with Germany. A convenient way to do it was through Japan -- Germany's ally.

Japan has next-to-no domestic oil supply and never has. It has always gotten nearly all of its oil from the East Indies -- and guess who owned all of that oil? The United States, and Great Britain!

So, earlier in 1941 (six months before Pearl Harbor), 'Frankie' and 'Winnie' totally cut off ALL oil shipments to Japan, even though both the U. S and Britain were totally AT PEACE with Japan! To avoid complete strangulation, Japan retaliated by fighting back, and that involved their attack on Pearl Harbor and invasion of the oil-producing regions in the Pacific. Well, next thing you know -- we're in a war with Japan, and then Hitler (in his incredible stupidity) declared war on the United States because Japan was Germany's ally! Mission accomplished!

The worst thing that can happen to Trump is to be impeached and removed from office, after that he will probably be convicted of treason. Anyone who thinks the fact that Mueller has not let on that he has more than enough evidence to do this to Trump indicates that such evidence is not there in abundance is letting their inexplicable love of the man cloud what has so far seemed an astute intelligence and judgment

Your WWII analysis is very cogent and has only two real defects that I can see. The Japanese could have at least tried to remove the ostensible cause, which was the harshness of their invasion of China, it might not have worked, but it would have certainly made more sense than going to war with the US. The second problem with it is why would Roosevelt and Churchill think that Germany would go to war with the US? Besides the fact that Hitler was known by this time to frequently break his agreements he was under no obligation to go to war in 1941 anyway, as his Alliance with Japan only obligated him if Japan had not been the attacker.

If America and Britain had been trying to pull America into a war with Germany it seems they were trying a method which was amazingly roundabout and far more likely not to work than to succeed. (though I am VERY glad it did)

Trump will leave IF he loses in 2020 but only IF he loses. The people who voted him in in 16 remained silent until they went to the polls and I think they remain silent even now but will be heard from again this November when they vote republican.

You could be right about the possibility of Trump being impeached if Democrats achieve a majority in the House, Aleks. That is a real scenario, more as 'payback' for the impeachment of Bill Clinton by Republicans in 1998 (for lying under oath). But, Clinton was not 'removed' from office, and neither would Trump, because there is next-to-no chance that Demos will take over the Senate in January.

Democrats may achieve the numbers to pull this off, but they should be careful about their motives. It could easily backfire on them if they are seen as a radical 'socialism-lite' rabble who are trying to pull America's economy back down into a welfare-dependent quagmire again.

A last note on the FDR-Churchill conspiracy to get the U. S. embroiled in Britain's war with Germany... I agree that it seems strange that Winnie and Frankie would use the alliance between Germany and Japan as leverage to get America into the war, but it does make a LOT of sense considering the mood of the American people in the late 1930's and very early 1940's. To say the least, Americans were positively ALLERGIC to any more involvement in Europe's problems....

Americans felt completely BURNED by this country's involvement in World War ONE. What was supposed to be a big chest-thumping, patriotic trip abroad in 1917 turned into an indescribably horrible, lethal hell for Americans, and a great many of them wanted absolutely no more of any of Europe's wars! Besides, honestly, a lot of Americans, including very prominent, influential ones viewed Nazi Germany as a good thing because it was antagonistic to the Communist Soviet Union!

Besides, we were still in the mire of the Great Depression, people didn't have good jobs or any money, and the LAST thing Americans wanted was to have to go fight "the Hun" again.... So, Winnie and Frankie had a difficult task ahead of them, but, as I said, using the "Japan ploy" worked, and it worked completely. England (and Europe) was rescued from the Germans, the lingering American "Great Depression" ended immediately with a gigantic 'tsunami' of government war-spending, and the rest is history.

I think it's more likely that all left wing radicals will unite and go dwelling to dwelling, executing anyone who doesn't denounce traditional America and the Republican Party.

Kind of...since then it has been revealed how fundamentally stupid, amoral, unethical, incurious, and ignorant the president actually is. So the circumstances are a bit different.

If the Dems run Warren which it looks like they will...if Hillary thought swing states didn't go her way...Warren will get demolished in them. She's too far left. She's a complete nutjob who think she's Native American

I didn't vote for him the first time, but I sure as hell will vote Republican if someone like Warren or Biden runs. I am also not voting Libertarian this November, but Republican.

It's more of a defense against how radical the left has become.

I'm just one vote though. There may be many others like me, but who knows. Time will tell
