The most obvious "sign of a fanatic" who is "insecure" is someone who becomes emotional and projects spurious ad homs because they cannot deal with the FACTUAL SCIENTIFIC DATA that exposes their farcical theist beliefs.
This is like saying that we understand why the constants that government to physical world are set exactly as they are. For instance, why does the Fibonacci sequence converge to 1.618............and why is does this mathematical concept appear in works that are so pleasing in music and art as well as being a functional part of nature? Why does Planck's constant exist and why should electromagnetic come is discreet quanta instead of being energized randomly? It is like Feynman used to say, if you think you understand these things then you probably don't, lol. Of course, fundamental materialists want to take all the mystery and wonder out of the world.
"Probability Alien Life Watching Us Cannot be Determined" Over here in Europe, aliens are definitely watching us. They want our homes, our women, our money ......
So when educating is done in our school systems when talking about the origin of life on Earth, your position is the educator cannot talk about #1 or #2 but should instead just teach #3 that there is no answer...no hypothesis...no guiding research?
This is a scientific discussion. The honest scientific answer is "I don't know how life started but here is a best guess", and that guess is weak. Note that nowhere in this discussion have I claimed that God did it. All I have pointed out is that within the scientific community the question of how life started is unanswered. There are many unanswered questions. Its you and a few others that have made the huge leap that anyone who does not fully endorse the idea that a solid scientific answer exists must be promoting religion.
Thats a huge leap for you to make. The educator should talk about all 3. An educator should educate, and that includes pointing out the weak links and unanswered questions. Knowing that humanity and science does not have all the answers, that there are many unanswered questions, is important for people to learn.
That was dumb, nobody is implying they know more. If an archeologist claims there are little green men, that is occupational suicide. Same thing happens with pilots, they get fired. Astronauts don't see them, but they have a code word, "santa claus" is up here.
Scientists know one thing for certain, life did begin. Somehow, the proper building blocks such as amino acids were formed on, or delivered (panspermia) to Earth.
And I've stated as much already. The only thing that we know is that life was created on earth, and that life has prospered on earth so we know the necessary conditions to sustain that life. But how was that life started? Unknown. And related to the larger question of the probability of extraterrestrial life, we know nothing. And thats why its pure speculation.
We actually "Know" quite a bit which leads to informed speculation (also known as hypothesis). We know the chemical components and amino acids of "Life" are extremely common in our solar system and extrapolate this fact to the Galaxy. We know that nuclear mutation occurs regularly within complex combinations of these compounds and we know this accumulates over time. We know there has been a lot (Billions of years) of time for things to happen and thus speculate with moderate confidence.
Then there is mathematical probability. The odds of Earth being the only planet in the entire universe to have originated life are, quite literally, astronomically remote (1 in 700 quintillion). It always struck me as the epitome of hubris to presume that in the known magnitude of the universe our obscure dust spec would be the singular "chosen one" where "life was created". That level of arrogance and conceit can only stem from Stone Age ignorance being "explained" by myths and fables that are the origins of today's religions.
Yeah...it will be awesome when (Not IF) we find life in our little solar system. We likely already did on Titan but need to go back to confirm. There is no other viable explanation for hydrogen depletion in the lower atmosphere. https://www.nasa.gov/topics/solarsystem/features/titan20100603.html
Thank you for that link. I had not seen it yet. Titan is definitely worth another look since it could greatly expand the meaning of the term "life" across the universe.
Give it another decade or so. https://futurism.com/nasa-space-submarine-titans-seas But likely we find bugs on mars first. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018...h-s-most-hostile-places-giving-hope-life-mars I'm guessing between sand dunes but...who knows.
All we know is related to current life on earth, and we dont know how that life was started. Humanity has barely touched the solar system, so making claims about the solar system is tenuous, and making any claims about the galaxy is pure speculation. The entire subject of extraterrestrial life is pure conjecture, no foundation at all. ET could be out there, or there could be no life outside of earth, its all a total guess.
