Et Ideo Finitur: And So It Ends.

This will be my final post on this forum. I have reached the point in my life where I recognize that there are infinitely better ways to spend my precious time than engaged in the type of discussion this forum produces.

I have certainly managed to engage with some people in some intellectually stimulating conversations, and at times I've learned a lot from some of the posters here. But, I have also realized there is nothing but frustration and irritation to be had yammering at people who simply don't see the world in the same way... and are offended at someone daring to think differently than they. We aren't going to convince each other, so what's the point? Unless it is that conflict and the need to rage at someone else that is the entire point??

Personally, I don't like to think that I'm hungry for Conflict for Conflict's sake. I have certain beliefs that are deeply held and - I think - entirely logical and justifiable. I believe them strongly enough to stake my life on perpetuating them and defending them... but I'm done discussing them with people who have no interest in hearing or respecting them and seem only interested in ramming their beliefs down my throat.

Sure, there are those who would say: "Hey, you're trying to push your beliefs down MY throat!" but I disagree. I figure what I'm fighting for is not to force someone else to live their life the way I do; but for me to have the right to make my own choices about how to live MY life. My opponents and opposition on this forum don't want me to be able to make my own choices and seek to force me to accept having my ability to make my own choices restricted or even stripped from me. I started here believing I could explain my viewpoints and why I have come to think as I do; but instead I found myself in ever more venomous exchanges with certain posters until I realized I was in danger of becoming the exact kind of yammering extremist I very much do not wish to be.

So, I have decided to bow out in the spirit I'd hoped to maintain when I began: with a simple statement of opinion offered rationally and respectfully.

I believe in the right to keep and bear arms. I believe it is an inalienable right and critical to the survival of a truly free society. Gun control is an empty panacea that undermines freedom and liberty and puts us on a path towards the destruction of freedom and the creation of a totalitarian state where rights become simply privileges readily revocable at the whim of the oligarchs. I believe we are on a dangerous path that can only end in disaster. It may not be this year or even this decade... but if we don't change our path, then that disaster becomes inevitable.

With that, I wish you all well.

May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Sorry to see you depart, there are too few here who can articulate the freedoms we have they way you have.

Take care sir, hope we meet again sometime in the future.

oh I think its clear as day that you indeed are hungry for conflict for conflict's sake.

you proudly annouce to the Forum that "this is my last post", that you see all this arguing and fighting as useless......but then weeks later you come back and have been posting non-stop about violent revolution and rebellion.

just admit it, you get a kick from the conflict and arguing.

you get a kick out of baiting folks who support gun control.

you enjoy arguing with folks that you ADMIT will not see it your way.

what did Einstein say about trying the same thing over and over again but always getting the same result?

All humans must take breaks eventually to sort matters out for themselves. It is a basic aspect of their very nature.

The statement in question pertained only to expecting different results when all the variables remain the same. If one knows full well what the likely results are going to be, it is not insanity.

Well, Ron, I see why you would see the situation as you do above. It was probably a mistake on my part to post the original message; but I was indeed committed to walking away because I realized I was sick and tired of the arguing. I DON'T get a kick out of baiting folks who support gun control, and I don't enjoy arguing with folks who will obviously not see it my way. It does, in fact, as previously mentioned, frustrate the Hell out of me.

But, as I popped in here and there to glance at threads I realized that people of a certain belief structure are determined to ride roughshod over my rights and my beliefs and to destroy my very way of life. My Life, my Liberty, and my Pursuit of Happiness are all under attack.

So, I could pretend that the attacks on my freedom weren't happening, or I could go back to responding to them; not to win the argument per se but to let people know there remain individuals who will not capitulate and will not allow the continuing assaults against the Constitution and the Western way of life to continue without someone being willing to stand up and say: "Not while I still draw breath."

I decided I will continue to pound the bully pulpit and expose the authoritarians and totalitarians and enemies of the Constitution for what they are. I will contribute what I can to the rhetorical fight if I can, and I will continue to wage war against them; first through the ballot box and then, if that fails, with the cartridge box.... though I continue to hope it won't come to that.

oh just admit it, you enjoy baiting folks who support gun control, threatening them with violent rebellion and civil war.

...even though you know none of that is ever gonna happen, and even if it did you wouldn't be any part of it

Nothing you just wrote has any factual justification, so there's nothing for me to admit.

Why don't YOU just admit you're a scared little mouse hiding in your basement terrified of your own shadow, wanting to make all those big, bad gun owners with their nasty guns go away; to Hell with the Constitution or any other viewpoint that fails to gibe with your own?

    lol....I'm a gun owner myself.

I simply believe in common sense gun regulations.

now, didn't you say in your OP that you were leaving for good?

So you claim; but I no reason to believe you.

You have never demonstrated "common sense" that I've ever seen.

I explained why I changed my mind. You don't have to like my reasons.

    Ruger 10-22 and a Weatherby SA-08

    love em.

but I still support common sense gun control, like background checks, permits & training for handguns, magazine size limits, bans on full-autos.

So, you know how to flip through Gun Digest. I'm so impressed.

None of which is "common sense"; especially mag limits and requiring permits to exercise a Constitutional right.

    nope, I own them.

sad that you feel the need to refuse the concept that someone could own guns AND support common sense gun control.

    very sad.

No, what is sad is that anyone could so blithely support a position that violates and corrupts the Constitution.... and again, NOTHING you support is "common sense."

That's the only one I reservedly agree with. The rest are devoid of merit.

And yet the supposed common sense of it all, background checks are easy to avoid, as the system is easily to sidestep and exploit, and the government has demonstrated absolutely no interest in prosecuting those that do such.
