3 Posthumous recipients: Babe Ruth, Elvis, Judge Scalia 4 Living: Ex-NFLers Alan Page and Roger Staubach, plus Orrin Hatch and GOP donor Miriam Adelson. (Adelson clearly bought the honor of his wife). Thoughts? https://www.apnews.com/6c7703e73e5f444db1b98fab5c3688be
Unless someone does something truly heroic, then this medal of freedom is a bunch of malarkey. I know all presidents have done it, but why? While I disagree with the man's politics, Jimmy Carter has done more as a civilian than the people Trump is giving this medal to.
Let's hope Alan Page doesn't kneel when getting the award.... "It recognizes those people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors". Babe Ruth?? At least Elvis and Staubach served in the military. Orrin Hatch.. Senator for 41 years... Sure, fine... He's only lost his mind for the past 2 of them... Scalia? Sure.... I'm fine with that... All former SCOTUS should get one (excepting heavy beer drinkers)
I am already picturing the epic photo-up of of Trump's Orange Bloated Face next to a 75-Year-Old Priscilla Presley (looking like a complete plastic surgery disaster).
Obama's Medal of Freedom pay-offs to top Dem fundraisers after Hillary's 2016 loss was just about the most cringe-worthy spectacle I've seen in this regard - Trump will have to try harder if he wants to stoop that low. But many an Enquirer reader will be waiting to see if Elvis comes out of hiding to pick up his, so that adds some spice!
Yup. Elvis is gonna sneak out from that dumpster at the Burger King he has been sleeping under. Or maybe he (and JFK Jr.) will emerge from Hitler's hideout in the Andes (accessible only by burro)? Gonna be a real freak show. I wonder if Lisa Marie and Riley Keough will show up?
Miriam Adelson (a prominent Jewish donor who (with her husband's help) bought her way to the Medal) was a cynically obvious attempt to counter Trump's Rabid Anti-Semitism. Trump has no shame.:smfh:
Think about how utterly hilarious this list of 7 is. The 4 Living recipients: Hatch = A complete joke of a Senator who stepped aside for Mitt Romney. Adelson = A rich donor (who, essentially bought the honor), but, since she is Jewish, Trump can hold her up to deflect anti-Semitism claims. Alan Page and Roger Staubach = 2 ex-NFL Players that Trump can hold out as "these guys respected the flag and never took a knee". (Also, since Page is Black, it provides Trump with cover against Trump's Overt Racism). And the 3 Posthumous recipients: Judge Scalia = Activist RW Reactionary on the S.Court. Babe Ruth = Trump trying to redeem himself for being too much of a Sniveling Coward to throw out the first ball in Washington.("See, I like Baseball, I know who Babe Ruth is"). Elvis = Who in his Final Days became Trump's Kindred Spirit Animal (A Morbidly Obese Pervert). Trump's cynically ridiculous picks have made this "honor" a total joke.
All fantastic picks...great Americans that have done amazing good for the world. Miriam Adelson in particular...her work running the Adelson Foundation helping people get healthcare is amazing. It's also refreshing to see deserving Americans get this award now, and not just Hollywood celebs that donate to the sitting President
I don’t really see the point of Ruth. Elvis makes sense. Scalia makes sense. Orrin Hatch is okay, I guess. I don’t know anything about Page and Staubach. Adelson looks like a partisan choice.
Adelson runs a fantastic charity that has helped countles people get healthcare. Page, is a HoF NFL player, who went on to go to law school and sit on the on the Minn. Supreme Court and he and his wife created the Page Education Foundation, helping minority children with their education.
Ceremony happening now.... No sign of Elvis.... I'm a little bummed... Trump already announced the 2019 recipients: Matt Whitaker Richie Rich Jim Thorpe Leeann Tweeden Zeus His Current Hairstylist Three Doors Down
Alan Page and Roger Staubach are fantastic human beings and deserve the award as does everyone Trump honored today.
No doubt about that. Staubach served in the Navy and Page had a respected Judicial career. At least, Trump can hold up 2 ex-NFLers "Who didn't kneel for the anthem" to throw shade at Kaepernick.
