The biblical Jesus character is an intolerant narcissist bigot. He is not a nice guy. What did he ever do that makes him worthy of being worshiped?
This assumes Jesus actually said all the things attributed to him and 2) takes the ritual way out of context to the point of absurdity.
The day will come when Jesus Christ will hug the unbelievers so tight that all the pieces of their personality and soul will fit together again.
Didn't Jake say that I should believe that as being factual in Post #306? So if that is absurd then how can one determine fact from wombat crap when reading the biblical fairy tale?
Actually, it is more like, some people who have studied the teachings of christ, cannot see much of these teachings in christianity, either in the past or now. And there doen't seem to be that many of these people who notice the incoherence between christianity, past and present, and the teachings of christ.
You mean he is in those, who sing...Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war... Sounds like they need to join Islam, given its founder was a war mongering general? The history of christianity proves christ was nowhere present in those people. And that is the fly in the ointment. Self evident.
Logically, one would listen to what these people say, and how they live their lives, and cross reference that with WHAT christ taught. Not what Paul taught, but what christ taught. And you are welcome if you want to thank me for telling you the obvious.
Just curious, do you go to sites with Muslims, Hindus, Taoist, etc.. to denigrate their beliefs too? How about kindergarten classes so you can tell them there is no Easter Bunny or Santa Claus? There are certain assumptions I make about people who go out of their way to mock Christians.. one is, they believe in God, they just don't like the idea of being answerable to a Supreme Being.
I thought you said, "many"? I objected to that. ha ha I have found, from being raised in christianity, attending mandatory sunday school and church from the time I was still in diapers, until I graduated H.S. and then continuing church attendance, in more than just one denomination, for much of my life, (no longer) that very little of what christianity stresses and teaches comes from the teachings of christ. Lots of it seems to come from Paul. The self appointed apostle(IMO). For without Paul, christianity could never have become the state religion of the roman empire later on. And the teachings of christ has been mostly ignored, or at best, cherry picked by christianity since its very founding, as the RCC. I once read the entire bible, twice, while still attending a university. Until that time, I simply listened to what all of the religious authorities had told me, in church. It was very enlightening to read what christ had taught, which if you believe he was who christians say he is, his teachings would have been given totally the last word, but it did not happen like that. Why? Well, what he taught is just too inconvenient for people who love money and material things the way even most christians do today. ha ha And who really wants to do what He said, and to take up your own cross and follow Him? ha ha. And not to judge others, given you are in no position to do so? ha ha But there are many more very inconvenient things that this man taught, and apparently this was GOD speaking through a human body, that felt pain, sorrow, etc. So, God speaking directly to man, via his conduit. So, surely that should be the very foundation of the church, instead of what Paul and others said? I have found nothing but wisdom coming from the teachings of christ, at least mostly. But who knows how much was added later by imperfect man, scoundrels even, who wanted position and authority, much like what we see in politics? ha ha Truth is, unless some more ancient documents are found, we will and can never know the truth. And God ain't appearing to us, collectively, to set the record straight!! ha ha Which is just a bit fishy IMO.
If it isn't obvious, then clearly you do not know His teachings, or, you have not paid close attention to christians. ha ha. I have, being once upon a time raised in this tradition. How bout you? How many hours, days, years have you spent in this field? I think you appear to be a mere outside observer, with little time invested in this deal. I could be wrong, of course. Most people who are not of christianity, or at least at one time were, seem to want to be experts. ha ha. Hell, I even took university courses from the dept of philosophy and religion many decades ago. Not much I have not heard about when it comes to this subject. It was kinda a hobby with me once I stopped buying into what we know of as christianity, with its hypocrisy. Reminds me of politics and politicians. ha ha But also reminds me of the cult of atheism. Which if course is grounded, a foundation, in philosophical materialism, with most of these people not even aware of what philosophy is the foundation to atheism. The time that I spent delving into religion and philosophy turned me into an agnostic. But admitting one does not know the truth, is a hard thing for some people to do. I think it has much to do with the arrogant nature of the ego I tend to think we are in more agreement than not though. At least when it comes to religion.
I was raised catholic, read the OT many times and went to Church/School every day but Saturday until 6th grade. As for being obvious....a wise man once said: "I once read the entire bible, twice, while still attending a university. Until that time, I simply listened to what all of the religious authorities had told me, in church. It was very enlightening to read what christ had taught, which if you believe he was who christians say he is, his teachings would have been given totally the last word, but it did not happen like that. Thanks for setting the record straight! Back in the 1950s, my mom used to get rid of those pesky bible salesmen, who went from door to door in the South. How? She would tell them that we were Catholic, and of course did not read the Bible. ha ha. It worked! I actually have attended mass, and enjoyed it, once upon a time. I also once went and listened to Gregorian chant, while tripping on acid. Beautiful! Can't top the RCC when it comes to ritual, and their churches sure were something else! At least compared to the drab bapist churches that I grew up in.
Your focus is on humanity....not how Christ works on humanity. Ever read "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" That is what the song "Onward Christian Soldiers" is about. Isn't it funny how people pervert the meaning of Christ and the works He has performed through His people?
