They aren't taking our auto manufacturing. I don't understand where that attitude comes from.

Exactly. I think Cadillac sold more CT6 sedans in China than they did here, in the US. All the people cheering Trump's tariffs seem to ignore the fact that we sell far more cars to China than we buy from them. The issue isn't completed cars. It's parts.

I don't either. That was the accusation so I went with it.

    Exactly!
It is a well-known phenomenon that the Trump worshipers have a disturbed relationship to facts and realities as soon if they oppose their masters deeds, statements and decisions! ;-)

You seem to be blaming the GMworkers for making too much money

I think that the cost of labor and benefits are one reason why GM is moving in order to be competitive. Back in the day, the cost of labor, benefits, disruptive strikes, featherbedding, was the reason why they moved or closed. Now we have tariffs and restructuring of plants for a new type of vehicle to add to the mix.

How are the tariffs affecting GM?

A statement like this is indicative of your inability to understand what manufacturing companies do to remain competitive.
Apparently, you believe that they can absorb these exorbitant costs and live happily-ever-after. It also tells me that you have never had
a payroll to meet out of your pocket.

Tariffs increase the cost of doing business along with the increased cost of raw materials

Other car companies are manufacturing and succeeding in America while GM claims to be failing

I think they are doing what their chinese masters told them to do

Raw materials estimated at abput $200 of the cost of a $20-40,000 car

But if thats the reason why isent GM closing its truck factories also?

Other manufacturers are also complaining about the tariffs. Both BMW and Mercedes are having second thoughts about building another factory here. Ford is leaving the American market except for the production of 2 models
Ford is basically giving up on US car business; GM isn't far behind

Whereas you see tariffs a the phony excuse I see corporate mismanagement

    From your link:

GM still makes quite a few cars. For now, Chevrolet alone still sells somewhere around 12 car models if you count Corvette, although there have been rumors and news it will cut or end production of at least some of those. Buick has some sedans and a crossover that looks a lot like a wagon, and Cadillac has so many sedans industry observers and dealers say it missed the crossover trend.

And despite the fact that American companies are reshaping their lineups, sedans will still form a substantial portion of the vehicles sold in the U.S. for the foreseeable future.”

Pretty funny when you answer your own questions.
What is $200 times 5 million cars?
Well, I'll be darned it's a billion dollars.
What's $200 divided by $20,000 sales price of a Cruz.
What's $200 divided by the $40,000 sales price of a truck?
Does a billion dollars hurt your business? You got to be kidding about that one.
Did that satisfy your righty math challenged questions.

You assume that GM has to eat the $200

What about all the transplants who are thriving in America?

Their cost went up $200 also

They just lost $200 a car, unless of course if they already get those parts in Mexico and Canada tariff free.
If you thought there was a billion dollars waiting for you in Mexico, Would you go pick it up.

They are moving because of higher costs. That is why they move, not because of mismanagement. The CEO of GM is making very sound management decisions to reposition the product. If Trump's tariffs didn't have an adverse effect, Carrier, Harley, et al would not be moving. Your incompetent, self-centered president is giving us a kick in the groin.
