If it moves, tax it! If it doesn't move, tax it! If it even exists in theory, tax it! The whole state of California has lost its ****ing mind.
It doesn't matter what you do; politicians are wringing their hands, thinking how they can take your money for doing it.
It would be the best thing to happen to California in a long time. The youth vote would be hit the hardest with a texting tax. Maybe then they would stop voting Democrat.
Simple. I will disable ALL texting functions from the kids cell phones, and cancel all data plans. Back to using flip phones. F Jerry Brown and his idiocy.
Its overbudget, late, and was intended as a wealth transfer to the DNC's pals. Never was about a train.
The Feds tell California. NO. California telecom regulators have abandoned a plan to impose government fees on text-messaging services, saying that a recent Federal Communications Commission vote has limited its authority over text messaging. The FCC last week voted to classify text-messaging as an information service, rather than a telecommunications service. "Information service" is the same classification the FCC gave to broadband when it repealed net neutrality rules and claimed that states aren't allowed to impose their own net neutrality laws. California's legislature passed a net neutrality law anyway and is defending it in court. But the state's utility regulator chose not to challenge the FCC on regulation of text messaging.
Yes, taxing families that can barely afford food so that billionaires can have a tax cut it a great idea!
10% for everyone is fair. A person with an income of $50,000 pays $5,000. A person with an income of $500,000 pays $50,000. That is fair.
Fair is not having families starving while others have three vilas overseas and will use their tax cut to buy a fourth. Our definition of “fair” seems to be quite different.
America is all about equal opportunity, not equal results. No one is starving. There are dozens of government programs to help those that can't (or won't) provide for themselves.
No one is advocating equal results, the vast majority just see problems giving tax breaks to people that won’t even notice them and increasing taxes on those struggling to get by. Jesus had several good commands about this. Not that you care: https://mashable.com/2016/07/14/child-hunger-united-states/#4uD4ZlhrDaqb 16 million American kids struggle with hunger each year. An estimated 48.8 millionAmericans , including 16.2 million children, live in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. As a result, about 1 in 5 children go hungry at some point during the year.
Jesus advocated individuals (especially the rich) giving directly to the poor. He did not advocate for Rome to raise taxes and establish government assistance programs for the poor.
Jesus advocated the rich abandoning all they had for the poor. There was also something about rendering unto Cesar. I can see how this is confusing you into thinking we should tax individuals more that face food scarcity. Like Jesus said. If they are poor **** them.
Yeah, "fair" is surely relative. I enjoy working 40+ hours and earning a retirement and ensuring I'm not a burden on my family or society while others can't even find time to put in 20 hour weeks as it interferes with their "me time". And those same people who are starving are the same people that have Smart phones and a 44" TV in their pad. They'd rather get a liter of Night train rather than a $2 loaf of bread and a $4 jar of Peanut butter. And BTW, I was poor as **** growing up. I moved out when I was 17. Lived with 6 other guys in a 2 bedroom apartment. Literally ate mac n cheese, top roman & peanut butter for about 3 years while I squirreled away every penny I could. By the 20, I had enough saved up to start my own catering company. I literally made $0 for the first 2 years and averaged about 80 hour weeks while I reinvested every dollar into my business. By age 24 I made my first $100k. EVERYONE has the opportunity to make a solid living. Its those who are willing to make the sacrifices and blood, sweat and tears that become net earners. And there are those who try hard but just do not have the mental fortitude to make it. They will always be the worker Bee's. And then there will always be the entitled who will leach, cheat and scrounge.
While yours is an interesting case study it is not the norm. Upward mobility is decreasing yearly and more and more of the rich have only inherited it (like trump). So many have the mentality that because they could do it, anyone can. This just simply isn’t true. I know of several single mothers that work 2-3 jobs just to scrape by for their children. So we should increase their taxes so they can definitely lose all hope? Great plan!
Since all taxes are really income taxes (income is the only source in the final analysis) I could agree mostly with that. But I think certain taxes on certain goods and services can be effective in curtailing indulgences in things that are bad for society, like foods containing hydrogenated oil and high-fructose corn syrup, or mining and usage of coal.
