If this stretches past Christmas then the nonessential government workers are going to have to pay some bills without a current paycheck. Given that government shutdowns are not abnormal, they should have some savings put aside for this eventuality, if not, well, they are largely Democrat voters, so Nancy and Chuck's constituents that they are hurting with their theatrics. Congress authorized a barrier, on a nonpartisan vote, even Pelosi voted for it, 12 years ago and they have yet to fund it. Well, they need to cough up $5B for border security if they want the President's signature.

It’s estimated at $29 billion, not long from now, when the timing is ripe, Trump may very well put the $29 billion for the tunnel on the table along with $25 billion for the wall and inform Chucky that he has one shot at this, take it now or you are not going to get it for at least another two years.

The existing tunnels are 100 years old and barely staying in service. If they shut down, Manhattan would lack a rail connection to the rest of the national rail network, and a huge number of New Jersey commuters and Acela passengers from DC would be marooned.

Those New Jersey and New York commuters, and the Northeast corridor rail travelers, like the federal bureaucrats, are Democrat constituents, for the most part.

So, let the pressure build a little, then let's see what kind of a deal Chuck is willing to make.
