Many years ago I had a relative pass away and him and I had one common thread, firearms, the entire collection was supposed to pass to me with the stipulation I would not sell them, but pass them to my children, which at the time I had none, none the less I agreed. Another relative, a sister I never knew I had, who I can only describe as a gold digging puppy mother, wanted to liquidate the collection and went as far as to hire an "expert" to asses the value of the collection which at the time (197 was appraised at just over $100K. I literally had to lawyer up out of my own pocket, even though I was the executor of the will, which the acting attorney should have followed my wishes and the will, but didn't. In the end I shut down the gold digger, but she literally by then stole almost $30K of the firearms and pawned them. Sadly, a few years later, she, drunk as a skunk ran off I-95 into the breakdown lane and slammed into the rear of a semi-trailer, decapitating herself in the process.
Mine in .357mag is the most accurate rifle I own (or, at least, its the rifle I am the most accurate with)
I rescued a ruger Alaskan in .480 last week. I don’t know why Dillon doesn’t have dies for .480 ruger/.475 Linebaugh listed. Guess I’ll give them a call.
If your press will accept dies with 7/8"x14 threads, consider a set of Lee dies. I’d give a call to Lee, they might be informative... or Dillon. What do you plan on using the gun to do? BTW, Double Tap is a good source to consider as an alternative, I get my .450 SMC loads from them.
It’s going to be a side arm in moose and Bruin country. I cast and load for all but a few calibers. Here in California, online ammo purchases must be done through an FFL so there is added expense and hassle. I called Dillon and they don’t make dies for those calibers and was told they don’t have any plans either. I’ll check lee. Need to get a sizing die for the star too.
Make acquaintances outside the state of California, have them order the ammunition and shipped to their address, then make a road trip and smuggle it back into the state of California.
We sold our home and are in the process of relocating to a free state. The only ammo I buy is .22, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, and 12 ga And I have several years supply of that.
Or.... ship to your hunting destination, a friend or a hotel. Hotels are very accommodating to guests with no questions asked. I used to travel so extensively, often to multiple destinations in a trip sequence that I found it expedient to send luggage and equipment to be held for my arrival. Just couple bits of advice from someone that visits the AK every year and treks to fishing locations; I used to carry a large cal revolver worn on a cross chest rig on the stream and either 12ga or a .45/70 in and out of the bush, but once in a bluff charge after having visions of being bear scat, I realized there were limits on how fast I could bring either gun to bear (pun) intended and be confident of a fight ending shot placement, despite my practice. At distance, with time to give, you can down a large bear with a .357, 44mag with the right ammo. But, up close, they move far faster than you can. If you rely on a .460 or larger, make sure you practice, practice, and practice. Recoil can be scary in a scary situation. But in the last decade after seeing stats on man/bear and moose/moose encounters, The numbers are massively in favor of bear spray over a gun (of any kind) in a surprise encounter. I still carry, but my first line of defense is bear spray. Btw, if I am not mistaken, more people are killed/injured by moose than bear. They are huge and fast. And, remember, a tie is not an option....
It's funny but we are pretty free here in Indiana but I fear the far lefties will eventually ruin it.
