The UK can only do better by leaving the EU. I won't list all the reasons that turning one's government over to a higher power is a future disaster. I'll just say that the EU will eventually fold as the rest of the members exit.

It looks like Theresa May will not call another Referendum because it would give the green light to Scotland to have another vote on Independence. This would be the most rational thing to do given the amount of lies people were told in the first, the very small majority, and the reality that people are much more aware of the consequences now,

However what she is now intending on doing is only likely to create more turmoil at Westminster and hence to the British people. She is still going to try and get roughly the same deal regardless of the enormous vote against her. She has said she will talk to people of other parties. However she is not going to speak to the leader of the Opposition, Corbyn or any of the Opposition Front Bench which I would think would involve not speaking to Labour's Brexit Secretary Kier Starmer. Insane. It appears instead she is using this as an opportunity to play party politics, hoping to get the Blairites in the Labour Party at war again with Corbyn. Unbelievable.

Unfortunately the no confidence vote this afternoon is unlikely to win as the DUP and other Tories will be voting for May. It would be great if some of the Tories did vote in agreement but no one is expecting that.

The referendum question was too vague. It didn't say how the brexit was to be done so you ended up with soft brexiter and hard brexiter both voting yes but not agreeing on how. A second referendum, this time mentionning the "how" would settle the matter.

Right. force them to vote again and again until they vote exactly what you want.
I have a better idea, why not shoot the first 1000 who does not vote what you want and the rest of them will vote according to plan.

I don't know what will happen but I do have an opinion on what should happen. The UK should break cleanly with the EU in March and our British brothers should take advantage of the monkey missing from their back to make the UK better and stronger.

And worth every quid of it. Hard to put a price on freedom, isn't it?

Same here. I think Britain should break from EU and manage its own affairs. Even hard break won’t have as much of an economic impact as many alarmists claim.
Britain does not need an agreement. They can make travel visa-free to Britain from EU, which will allow them to weed out outsiders and still make it easy for EU citizens to come and do business.

If the second vote is to Remain then what’s to keep the Leave side from calling for a third vote?

Since when are elections not binding when no fraud has taken place?

Or rich as they prefer. The EU isn't going to make them rich. They can only do that for themselves.

Nothing is to stop from a third vote being called if enough of parliament wants it. That is democracy

As an American, I don't really "have a dog in this fight"... but I've heard those who know a lot more about the situation than I do say that in twenty years, Britain will be much better off -- but that in the immediate time-frame (up to five years), the British economy would be negatively impacted... perhaps, quite a bit.

Perhaps since the second referendum, the first one was in 1975.

So you're saying that the Irish border will be a free trade open border and allowing anyone to walk across it unopposed? I thought brexiteers wanted to have control of all borders. Also what happens to businesses in the rest of the UK who will be at a disadvantage due to having tariffs imposed on them?

Why not cancel the US presidential elections then?
There are rules and one must play by the rules.
A second referendum would be a disgrace.

In this place where there are only bad solutions now, another referendum might be the way ahead.

Your grandson is right, in all likelihood. And you are right, too. Germany has "won", but it may prove to be an 'indigestible' victory unless there is closer collaboration with the more productive, self-sufficient countries within the EU, and (interestingly enough) -- Russia! Meanwhile, if a 'brexit' ever really occurs at all, it will probably feature a crippled Britain ever more reliant on the U. S. in its aftermath, for at least the next five years....

As the U. S. slowly continues to fade out of European affairs, and, as both Russia AND China become much more participative in Europe, it's virtually inevitable that Germany (as the brains and the economic muscle of the EU) and Russia especially will be more and more closely working together. If Nord Stream 2 is reflective of nothing else, it clearly shows that Germany and Russia are joined-at-the-hip where energy is concerned... and nearly every other aspect of the economy revolves around that. I still can't believe that anybody really thinks that Germans will be stupid enough to pay at least 300% more for liquefied natural gas shipped all the way around the planet from Coos Bay, Oregon....

And then, of course, there's the enormous thrust of China and its "Belt and Road" initiatives in Europe. In sum: for all concerned in Europe, and throughout the entire Eastern Hemisphere, I see a path well-lit....

In that case, it would come at a good time, blending in with the current disgrace and perhaps eclipsed by the original disgrace of the first referendum.
