i've got a good list of ignored, eliminates the time wasting scrolling through the offensive, the loons, the mentally short changed and their idiotic posts...and looking at my list of ignored I'm not wrong I see many of them have been permanently banned...
I have a pretty short ignore list and you really have to be a complete waste of my time to get on it. To qualify you either have nothing but personal attacks or in some other way prove yourself to be entirely incapable of debate and discussion on a subject such as consistently attempting to turn every conversation into a pissing contest. That's when I pull the plug.
I apologize. I completely missed your opinion, and now I can't seem to find it. Please bear with me. My curiosity has been piqued. So, you chose to juxtapose your response to my OP with "fear" as a sort of emotional catharsis? That's very interesting. Does your opinion equate with your emotional state, or is there more to it than that?
That's not true at all. I ignore some people, but the most certain way to get on my ignore list is to chop my quotes to remove context. That is intellectually dishonest and not worthy of my time, it has nothing to do with insecurity, it has to do with standards...
I don't have anyone on ignore. Once I start to get trolled on a thread, I just don't back to that thread and ignore the alerts until they get off their high horse.
There are good reasons to use ignore. I know some posters are going to just write bullshit, or they can't stay civil. I put them on ignore.
I don't have anyone on an ignore list. Never have. If someone is particularly offensive, I just never respond to them again, nor do I read their bs they write. Simple as that.
depends on the intent with which it was done... if it's to take it your post out of context I agree that's dishonest... if it's to simplify the post by removing superfluous content not relevant to the reply that's entirely different....but it shouldn't alter the original posts intent... I guess I should expect to be put ignore soon as I do the 2nd...sometimes just to shorten the post, other times I only want to address one part of the post that I may agree or disagree with...
so you do ignore them...then there's no reason to scroll through their posts, make them disappear permanently.
Yeah, I pretty much just ignore them without bothering with an ignore list. Sometimes other people I like respond to them, and that can be worth seeing, so I don't really want an ignore list.
That doesn't work well. What you end up with is a bunch of weird looking posts, because you don't have the context of what other posters are replying to.
nah I can usually figure out when there's an invisible poster...as I'm not going to read their post anyways why clutter up the thread...
I tend to keep it short, and remove everyone at the end of the year. There were 3 people on it until now.
An ignore list is like burying your head in the sand. just imagine if jfk and khrushchev had done that.
Even though I've 'drawn fire' in this Forum for over ten years as a rock-solid economic Conservative, there is NOBODY on my "Ignore List". It would be beneath my dignity to be so chickenshit that I would have to HIDE from other people that way, even if they hate my guts and fight me tooth-and-nail every chance they get, using every tactic imaginable. Really... if a person is so mentally FRAIL that they have to protect themselves by putting others on "ignore", they need to go sit all day in a quiet, dark closet and suck their thumbs....
Ignore lists should be renamed as, Pusillanimity's Post-It or Poltroon's Pouts as the idea of an ignore list, is for xenophobes. Or to a lesser degree, the idea of ignore lists is sort of like the idea of people now walking down the streets or halls with their face in cellphones; At some point, the wrong thing will be missed at the wrong time... It's probably why I oft add members to my ignore list here.
I'm not indiscriminant. Actually, I'm highly discriminating. 'I don't judge' is not a noble claim. Those who do not exercise good judgement on a regular basis are those who are most likely to condemn everything that they don't condone. Good judgement is a learned and perishable skill, and no one can be more tolerant than they are judgmental. I condone very little and condemn even less. I judge all things and tolerate most of if. However, there are things with which I will not waste my time. Your post well illustrates the sort of ad hominem and emotional response that response that I usually only put up with when I'm sitting with my grandchildren. Life is too short for good books; I only read the great ones. Good bye pollycy.
You are welcome to sequester yourself with the ''great books" (only!) and do whatever else amuses you. YOU started this thread, and YOU asked the rest of us, "How extensive is your ignore list?". I answered, but then you feel called-upon to scold me for my answer -- which obviously solicited our personal opinions about "ignore" lists. Why did you start this thread if you weren't interested in the forthright answers that we would give you? Did you only want answers that agree with your own attitude? Well... answer me, or don't... or just put me on YOUR "ignore list". You won't be on MINE....
This reads like, you are someone who never needs an ignore list. Yep. This totally contradicts the theme you put forth in the OP here.
