The Dunmer in Elder scrolls are technically not dark elves although they are sometimes referred to that. World of Warcraft does not have dark elves. They are Night Elves and completely different.
LOL all you have to do for Michael Jackson is a fedora and a shiny glove. I kid you not I am a European mutt and my skin tone is darker than Michael Jackson's was.
I voted that I tind A offensive... but I find it insensitive. It doesnt offend me, but I figured 'close enough'. What is the point of the poll? Was someone claiming B was offensive?
Read further into the thread. There are actually cons that have banned cosplaying as Drow and other similar fictional races, on the basis that it's blackface and thus racist.
lol ok what about Tyson, and for someone with really light skin... are we now discriminating against light skinned people..
or blacks/browns wearing snow white costume, perhaps should have a snow blackie & brownie custume instead... speakin of brownies, most of those girls are white what's up with that...
Actually I saw an article where black people with really light skin are being accused of benefiting from "white privilege". I'll see if I can dig it up
My apologies. I post this same thread in two different forums, and got confused as to what was said where. As noted, there are at least three con, all run by the same company, that I am aware of, that banns the cosplay of Drow, because they say it is blackface and racist.
Issue is blackface only means something if you understand why it is offensive in the first place. Many people overseas don't know the history of blackface and if you went to Africa and painted your white face black... many Africans will think it's hysterically funny.... they'll find no offence in it whatsoever.
Are you seriously comparing the use of make up in creating creatures of fantasy with white people emulating the racist "black face" of a bygone era and all that it represents to today's black community? There's a reason why its is emblematically offensive. AS it is, as an old white guy, I find neither to be offensive but A to be in bad taste.
Obviously "B" is extremely offensive to the Drow, but then again, humans dressing in "pointy ear" has always been offensive to elves.
