Actually, I live in Oregon, so my vote does not really count at all. Our EC votes pretty much go in the direction that the Portland Area votes.

You really work hard to ensure Republicans win.

yep....in the history of using the EC system.....which has been in place for the WHOLE existence of our country....not a single Democrat has every won. /s

It seem that you are the one working hard to ensure that Democrats win. You are the one wanting to change the system that has worked well for over 200 years. Those on the right do not really need to work hard to keep the system in place.

No need to I'm not the one pushing to amend the Constitution and change a fundamental principle of our country which will lead even more politicization.

Doesn't count where, your vote in the election you vote in, counts as much as anyone else's vote in that election.

Changing to a popular vote appeals only to people who are ignorant about the constitution and do not understand why the founders created the electorsl college

I think moving to a popular vote system then we will fix this problem where candidates literally harass certain states and mostly ignore the rest.

I'll bet you don't remember the last time the right wanted to end the electoral college, huh? Well, it was yesterday. It was also last week, last month, last year, ten years ago, etc.

"Americans have had nearly 11 years to think it over and they’re still of the opinion that the Electoral College needs to go.

Following the deadlocked 2000 presidential contest, voters learned all about the Electoral College’s role in electing a president. And after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of George W. Bush, essentially giving him the election even though he earned fewer votes than Al Gore, 61% of respondents to a Gallup poll then said they favored electing presidents by popular vote, while only 35% still wanted the Electoral College.

A new poll virtually mirrors the 2000 survey, with 62% favoring the popular vote.

This time, though, the results aren’t as driven by partisanship. In December 2000, the favoritism for the popular vote was led by Democrats, 75% of whom liked this idea, while 56% of Republicans wanted to keep the Electoral College.

Now, 53% of GOP voters want the popular vote to decide who controls the White House. Seventy-one percent of Democrats are on their side.

Gallup first began asking questions relating to popular vote vs. Electoral College back in 1967, yet not once has a majority of respondents polled in favor of the current system.

    https://news.gallup.com/poll/159881/americans-call-term-limits-end-electoral-college.aspx

    And yet...
"Now (2016), 47% of Americans say they want to keep the Electoral College, while 49% say no. "

"Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States." - Federalist 68, A. Hamilton. On the importance of the EC

And we discussed all that back when the original of this thread was opened on 2/21. I posted #2 on that thread opposing this concept, so take it up with somebody (everybody) who disagrees with you... They cannot be hard to find on here...

I am in favor of smart and responsible border control measures which have been well funded for decades now. I am not sure what Beto or any of the other candidates are at this point. I do know that Trump promised a huge border wall which would be paid for by Mexico. How is he doing in the negotiations with the Mexican government regarding the funding of this project?

I believe the latest offer to the Mexican government is for them to send us No Wall Money annually in exchange for them sending a Fully Loaded Taco Salad every week to the White House for 3 years.

The Mexican Government is considering the offer.

I understand the constitution and why the founders created the electoral college in the early 1800s. I also understand why those same people decided that only white male landowners were allowed to vote in the presidential elections and that it was perfectly fine to buy and sell human beings. It took another 60 years to ban slavery, and 100+ years for women to get to vote and over 150 years to secure legislation guaranteeing voting rights for non whites. When the electoral college was instated we were a young country made up of 13 distinctive colonies who were all trying to preserve their sovereignty. These are very different times and in my opinion the EC is an antiquated system which needs to be scrapped along with other discredited institutions which have already been scrapped. In 1800 over 85% of our population lived in rural farming areas. Now over 85% of the population live in urban metropolitan centers. It’s a whole new ballgame and the rules need to change to better represent the will of all of the people involved.

Looks like they are rigging the election again.... for Biden this time? Poor Bernie. They will let him run, steal his money and kick him to the curb. It worked last time. :)

It gave us all of our Presidents. We are not a nation that wins Presidential elections via popular vote. All were won via Electoral College.

So, yea, the people have spoken and we elected Trump, via EC, just like we elected every other single President.
