What is going on? Trump once again undermines government sanctions related to our nation's enemies [North Korea/ Russia]. It makes America look foolish/ confused/ in turmoil. :spin:

"WASHINGTON — President Trump undercut his own Treasury Department on Friday by announcing that he was rolling back North Korea sanctions that it imposed just a day ago.

The move, announced on Twitter, was a remarkable display of dissension within the Trump administration and represented a striking case of a White House intervening to reverse a major national security decision made only hours earlier by the president’s own officials."

It shows you how fluid the situation is and Trumps ability to adjust on the fly in the interests of America.

He is rather amazing actually and I attribute this type of reflexive action to his years in business dealings when things can change within a day and you have to react to them.

This is all a part of the negotiating process. Trump just showed that even though he walked way from their last meeting that he is still trying to reach out. It is give and take, walk away and extend a hand. Trump is just playing the game as he knows how too.

So our nation announces to North Korea and world what it will not tolerate and Trump who says he and Kim "are in love" like a fickle little girl reverses what his own secretary hailed yesterday? What a total fool this Republican president is!

"Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said the decision was a favor to Mr. Kim.

“President Trump likes Chairman Kim, and he doesn’t think these sanctions will be necessary,” she said.

Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary and one of Mr. Trump’s most loyal aides, personally signed off on the sanctions and hailed the decision in a statement accompanying them on Thursday.

“The United States and our like-minded partners remain committed to achieving the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea and believe that the full implementation of North Korea-related U.N. Security Council resolutions is crucial to a successful outcome,” Mr. Mnuchin said in the statement."

Can we afford to underwrite a "reunification petty cash fund"?

It’s in the interests of America to not impose sanctions on Chinese companies that are helping North Korea acquire nuclear technology?

North Korea already has nuclear technology lol.

I think you are a bit late to the party here, this was probably something Obama should have taken care of but he didn't.

Ah, so then why even have sanctions on companies trying to give them nuclear or missile technology?

Why didn’t Bush take care of it? He the one who labeled them part of the Axis of Evil then proceeded to regime change another Axis of Evil country which gave the North Koreans its modern impetus to develop a nuclear deterrent.

Interesting move. Impose sanctions and reverse them a day later. If only we knew why he changed his mind. I suppose we can ASSume, but that would just make us look foolish. I will wait for results.

Yep, lots of fails so let's give Trump a chance where the others could not succeed.

And Trump's chance has been to relieve North Korean sanctions even though they walked away from negotiations and reopened their test sites.

But they did have negotiations and closed those test sites.

    Didn't they?

That would be the result of negotiations.

It's a process, not a one and done type of thing which you think they should be.

They just reopened them. After walking away from negotiations in Vietnam. And Trump just rewarded them by lifting sanctions.

And they closed them, that was more than any of the other presidents got them to do isn't it?

So maybe as negotiations will go on they will close them again.

Lots of back and forth here and you have to let Trump do his job, don't declare success or failure after every single development.

    It's a process.

This is the way it looks to me. Something happened that caused Trump to change his mind. I guess it's back to business again, and another meeting. Anyway I'm glad, because things looked pretty bad yesterday. Let's hope this time Bolton stays out of it.

Since we are just speculating on what it was, I'll go with nothing to do with Li'l Kim and more to do with China.
Trump is desperately looking for an out on the trade war so he doesn't want to upset Xi.

We were looking foolish/confused/in turmoil long before carrot top stepped onto the stage. I will grant however, that this admin not being able to get on the same page looks particularly confused and in turmoil.

Trump Overrules Own Experts on Sanctions, in Favor to North Korea

Nice title - what an Oxymoron that is. We have decisions being made by Establishment puppets - doing the bidding of international financiers that run this nation. Our intelligence agencies "the ministry of Truth" is where they create propaganda - its like they are using Orwell's 1984 as a textbook.

Just because North Korea has nukes does not make them our "enemy". Pakistan has nukes - somehow they are not our enemy ? I am far more worried about some religious Jihadist wanting to off himself for Allah than Kim. Kim is all about self preservation.

Speaking of religious nut jobs - wanting to bring on the "apocalypse" - last time I checked it was the religious right fundamentalists that are the "Rapture Ready" crowd - thinking they are part of "Gods Plan" - which includes destroying a third of the earth by fire - as per Revelations. We are in the "End Times" didn't you know ? Rebuild that Temple in Jerusalem and let the fire reign down.

This would all be laughable nonsense if it were not for the fact that VP Mike Pence is one of these Fundamentalist wing nuts.

Then of course we have "Israel" - who was the brain dead zealot that figured it was a good idea to allow Israel to have nukes ? Like that's not an accident waiting to happen.

Kim is the least of my worries - unless of course we attack him which forces his hand. The same is true of France is it not ?

Dontcha think the DOT should've run that decision by the boss before announcing it? I know I would never make a major decision on my own without doing so.

Get back to me when Rocketman starts firing missiles toward his neighbors again. Until then, Trump has made the region more stable.

That and Bush before Obama and Clinton before Bush. While Bush was lying his face off "the threat from Iraq may come in the form of a mushroom cloud" so we need to attack now ... N. Korea was actually building the bomb and we knew it. We also knew that Iraq was not.

Frankly, I'm surprised Cabinet level positions can make such decisions WITHOUT getting approval from POTUS first.

They can't, technically. But they have been. I support Trump ...generally. But he needs to fire some folks and hes not.

I figure theres one of two things going on here:
    - attempted political sabotage from within the Trump admin (and Trump needs to clean house)
    - or Trump is playing good cop, bad cop (read: good president, bad cabinet) with Kim to get him back to the neg table

The fact that he reversed the order within 24 hours is a pretty big clue.
