They didn't try to 'overthrow the US', they just didn't want to be part of the union any longer. It was the North's position that the Union was the only sole source of government in America, and that from it, separating branches would otherwise be impossible save for a vote for secession, which is highly 'legally dubious'. How many times have you faced a guy trying to kill you with a firearm? I’m going to go out on a limb and say zero. Trust me, it isn’t as glorious as you make it out to be, and when you do find yourself in those circumstances, you will want a better means to defend yourself and loved ones than your fists.

Once I was hanging out with some friends, down by the river, when a couple of men came down the shore, shooting guns at the waterfowl. When one of my friends approached the men, telling them to quit shooting their guns, one of the men pointed his pistol directly into the face of my friend and said, "What are you going to do about it?" Without hesitation my friend popped the guy in the face, sending him and his gun flying to the ground. Another friend grabbed the gun and heaved it into the river. Both men were running down the street with a mob chasing them when the police arrived.
The primary difference is that I have facts on my side. As I pointed out, the Republicans lie to you. If you really looked into what our government has been up to, you would not be calling the Republican Party your friend. Sure, they get your emotions up, and make you feel good, but behind the scenes they are screwing you over big time. Why do you think it is that conservatives are always so in lockstep behind their leaders? And liberals rarely are?
Not at all, Republicans support business and have no qualms about that, Democrats on the other hand claim they are watching out for the little guy and then tax the crap out of him to buy votes from their welfare slaves. Because most of what they support conservatives support.
I don't expect conservatives to accept reality. In fact I get a kick out of telling true stories to conservatives and watching them go weird. I sometimes think that I have lived a rather unremarkable life. But then when I relate my personal experiences on line, I get a lot of push back, mostly from conservatives. "No way." "That couldn't have happened." "What a crock." And to think that people get upset when I refer to the alt-right crowd as lesser men.
Republicans don't support business. They protect corrupt business. That is why the last two Republican presidents have been failed businessmen. Bush bankrupted every company he was put in charge of, and Trump lost billions of dollars. Is that why conservatives love them, they're losers?
Your story is BS, first you claimed they had guns, then you claim one of your friends was able to hit and disarm one of them after which you chased them off, you forgot the other person was also armed and you and your friends as a mob are not chasing away a armed man. I learned years ago when interviewing people details count and it is the details of a made up story that gets people arrested, because it allowed me to pick apart their story which of course they would change trying to cover the first lie with another lie.
