Ford has just announced it will be laying off some 7,000 of it's world wide white collar work force, in preparation for what it sees as it's position in future world auto sales.
Approximately 2,300 of the layoffs will be in the USA accomplished by both buyouts and layoffs.SHOULD SAY FORD IN THE TITLE NOT FOTD.
I wonder if they wish they had waited to dump the car business now that Trump stopped the steel tariffs.
Sedans and coupes weren't big sellers, that's why both Ford and GM dropped them to concentrate on SUV's and trucks.
They're top heavy and going in another direction. And they have more competition with more coming when the new Toyota/Mazda plant opens in Huntsville in two years.
Obviously. But you have to wonder how much the tariffs on steel and electronics played into the timing of it.
Companies get top heavy over time, then they cut to the bone, it's a cycle like all other cycles. If you live long enough and pay attention to the business world you see it often. XYZ company has layoffs/firings -- ho hum.
Ford and GM have a hard time competing with Toyota, Nissan, etc that are pulling into the United States and aren’t strap down with the UAW. Not surprised to see them make a proactive move like this
Any auto manufacturers currently assembling vehicles in the USA pay very similar salaries to the much reduced UAW pay scale which were chopped way down considerably following the 2008 bailouts.
Vehicle prices have risen considerably since Dirty Donald began imposing his tariffs for all vehicles whether imported or domestic.
Damn! I got 12 in my duramax pulling a 14,500# trailer from Southern California to northern Idaho. Diesel is amazing stuff.
