I agree, both sides have thrown fiscal responsibility out the window. I think we Americans being from a very prosperous country have thought for a very long time that throwing money at our problems could solve them. When that doesn't work, we decide to throw more money at it. Then when the problem persists, we come to the conclusion that all it needs is a bit more money. We're very bad at trying to get to the root of a problem and correcting that. There are times I think we don't want to know the root cause, we're afraid of what we may find. I view Trump as more a resulting symptom of what has been happening in the past than as the cause. Your list is a good one and I agree. Nothing wrong with be the liberal you describe. There are many facets where a traditional conservative and a classical liberal are basically the same. Some stark differences. But I don't think either one of those would recognize the liberal or conservative of today as being part of them. Small government, fear of government and its power over the individual was one of the more or less tenets of a classic liberal. After all, this nation was founded by classic liberalist.
And when it was discovered that classic liberalism AKA Libertarianism does not work in reality those PRAGMATISTS amongst the Founding Fathers replaced the failure of Libertarianism with what we have in our current Constitution.
I don't know how many times I have to present you with reality, but there is a real dictionary that has the real definition of tribalism, and then there's your opinion.
Which would be fine and I am sure the founding fathers and the framers would be happy to see the federal government limited to the powers as granted by the constitution to the federal government in Article I Section 8.
That's an interesting view. But that's not what is in the Constitution. Can I take it that you do not support the US Constutition?
I commend you on this point and only want to note that 50 years ago, virtually all Conservatives were for universal background checks and keeping guns away from batshit crazy people. Actually, those two caveats should be no-brainers in a normal world....
But if there were background checks then the mentally ill wouldn't get to own a gun, something that's a constitutional right.
Liberals dislike bill for his personal flaws, his treatment of the criminal poor, (crack vs coke, 3 strikes etc) and of course the repeal of Glass-Segal.
Problem is the original JFK would be kicked out of todays democratic party for being far to conservative.
Perhaps now, Bill has outlived his usefulness. But not when Bill was president. Liberals were the first to jump in to protect and defend Bill. In a way Bill was like G.W. Bush. Republicans, conservatives protected him, defended him all through his presidency and during Obama's. Then Trump came along, now it is G.W. who.
When bush was president there was no respectful constructive criticism from the left They wanted blood Which insured bush supporters had no choice except to defend their president Now the same or worse is happening with trump and predictably his supporters are with him and will have his back till the last dog dies
You give him way too much credit. His economic policy was to increase faxes and spending but Congress denied him most of his spending request. He raised taxes and slowed a strong revenue growth curve. It was Gingrich and Kasich and the Republic Congress that passed more fiscal conservative policies including tax rate cuts, welfare reform and yes budget with spending restraint which produced balanced budgets. It was his political adviser Dick Morris which told him either get on board the Republican policies or not get reelected.
By taxing technology companies for the basic income, he guarantees to place those poor folks in the same place they are today with more money. The cost of everything that uses technology to be produced will rise and surpass the abilities of the masses to pay the tax. Oh, believe me, those corporations will not pay those taxes. His plan, though interesting, will collapse our economy much sooner than predicted. This is not the way to do it. He would have to change other laws which would drive those businesses overseas. I just don't want this socialist to make it worse than it is, and if he gets the opportunity, he will.
JFK was only there for 3 years; two, if you want to say he was not even president until 1961. He wasn't the greatest of our time. Most of you weren't even around when he was president.
JFK was smart enough to have adapted to the changes that have occurred since 1963. Too bad the same cannot be said for so many of his fellow Americans.
Failure to implement some type of safety net for the MILLIONS of hardworking Americans who are about to lose their jobs to AI and robotics is going to have DIRE CONSEQUENCES for our economy and the nation as a whole. What is YOUR ALTERNATIVE when this happens? Do you expect that millions of Americans are just going to shrug and go and live under an overpass in order to not upset the GREED OBSESSED Wall Street Casino Bosses?
JFK lowered taxes, invaded Cuba, went to the brink of nuclear war with the Soviet Union over them entering our hemisphere (Monroe doctrine) and put troops in Vietnam to fight the spread of communsim (domino theory). He was the polar opposite of today's democratic party.
