tie the fed min wage increases to Congress's cost of living increases the federal min wage is the least a greedy employer can pay a employee, it's needed
You don't have to look at cooked studies. Look at the price increases after every increase in the minimum wage in California.
LOL!!! Don't look now but we've had inflation since the last time the minimum wage was raised, and all that changed was that real wages remained mostly FLAT while prices and the bank accounts of the rich went UP!! LOL!!!! Wouldn't you say that inflation happens ANYWAY?
My disagreement was with having a federal minimum wage at all because of the vast differences of the cost of living between states (I was specifically referring to the current proposal of a $15/hr fed minimum wage). Also, there is no current mandate that it get updated. As you stated if it were updated every couple years and tied to inflation it would be around $12 today. And, yes some states keep it fairly updated, and some do not. And neither does the fed, who knows when it will get updated next, it may take 10 years, there is no requirement. My proposal was that we abolish it entirely and replace it with a mandate that states must increase/update their local minimum wage every two years and that it be tied to both inflation and the cost of living. Maybe we could keep the fed minimum wage too, but mandate that it also be updated every couple of years. This would be used as the minimum for the states, the major difference between the current laws and my proposal is that the wage MUST be updated every 2 years.
California passed the $15 minimum wage law and it increased every year until it reaches $15 per hour. Every time the minimum wage increases that taco at Taco Bell cost more. That hotel room cost more. Your groceries cost more. Go on the internet pick whatever fast food place you want and compare the California menu prices with the rest of the country.
I don't like your lack of honesty. If inflationary effects exist, you should be able to refer to economic studies in support.
I walked into a McDonalds and ordered what I usually order, two double hamburgers. The cashier in broken English said that will be $3.78. I asked her why was I able to purchase two double hamburgers just outside of Phoenix, Arizona a couple of weeks ago for $2. ? She looked like she had brain freeze and didn't know why and called for the manger. The managers wasn't sure why. Then I told them why. Democrats in Sacramento interfering with capitalism. Many liberals and most progressives hate capitalism.
The problem is that if a worker is not producing enough to be worth a minimum wage, they simply don't get hired, and are replaced by machines.
A lack of reality mind you, given the majority of economic research rejects negative employment effects.
we are gonna be replaced by machines no matter what, we are like the horses, our labor will be replaced by machines, once the technology is there, till then they will use foreign outsourcing and foreign imports as much as they can tariffs can delay this, but only so long, AI is increasing, and once they design themselves, they will explode exponentially
I went six years without ever eating at a fast food restaurant until I came down from the mountain back in October and I'm still going through the culture shock of what has happened in the flatlands of SoCal. In just six years rent has almost doubled and the Democrats homeless crisis had more than quadrupled. When the guy in front of me was speaking in Cantonese, the person on the right was speaking Spanish, the person on the left was speaking Farsi and the person behind me was speaking Tagalog I realized I was no longer in the California I remembered.
We Disagree! You Work 40 hours a week = Middle Class. Minimum Wage standards should represent. But the cost of living in Oklahoma is not the same as NYC. Minimum wage should be associated with the locality cost of living. Otherwise all "part time" employers would claim to pay an entry level
Just looking at raw data, Seattleās inflation is running approximately 30% higher than national average. Probably just the rain...
Why should someone just out of high school get a living wage, when all they want to do is get away from their Parents, work as little as possible, hang out and party. What ever happened to parlaying ones talents, negotiating a raise from your employer, budgeting and planning?
It wont be the real world. It is appalling just how innocent right wingers are. It's like they're herd
