Well a nut sounds mild when you consider he has refused to carry out court orders (to remove a ginormous granite ten commandments from his courthouse) and instructed his clerks to break federal law (to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples). If the people of Alabama, who have much to atone for for their horribly violent racist past, vote in someone with such disrespect for the rule of law, then they deserve everything bad that might follow.
