For those who say that homicide rates are lower in gun control loving countries like the UK, France, Australia, Canada, you might take a look at this map. It shows a comparison between homicide rate and ethnicity in each US state. The percentages don't all add up to 100% because obviously there are other ethnicities but listing them all would make the map too crowded and overcomplicate things. It starts becoming apparent why homicide rates are lower in the UK, France, Australia, Canada, etc, and it has nothing to do with what gun control laws they have. When gun control advocates say the US has the highest gun homicide rate out of all OECD countries, they're cherry-picking. All those "OECD countries" are either White English-speaking, Western European, or Northeast Asian in ethnicity (Chinese, Japanese, Korean). They don't say why the gun homicide rate is so high in Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, or South Africa. All countries that have tough gun control laws. Why do gun control advocates only want to compare the US with White or Northeast Asian countries? Seems very disingenuous. If you want to try comparing a comparable part of the US with a comparable part of Canada, try comparing North Dakota to Alberta.
"White Americans represent 87 percent of all firearm suicide victims, and have the highest rate of firearm suicide by race. American Indians and Alaska Natives also have a disproportionately high rate of firearm suicide." https://everytownresearch.org/firearm-suicide/ Widespread gun ownership in the US is hurting all races albeit in different ways.
Suicides are not relevant and do not count, as suicide can be successfully committed by any number of available implements. Firearms account for only half of all successful suicides.
Everytown is a Bloomberg funded antigun organization, which any research out of which should be dismissed as very antigun biased. If you wish to proffer their BS, do so at the risk of being considered less than truthful.
Easy cure for depression : ban guns. If there were no guns, they would hang themselves, like in the rest of the world.
I thought suicide was the cure. There is some truth in your second statement, but many GCAs here deny that, figuring if no guns no suicides.
If you took out the five highest murder rate, minority cities, the US murder rate would be near the bottom of world murder rates.
Banning guns would greatly increase depression, when a person is forced into being rendered helpless, that will cause depression.
That's because homicide, discussed in the OP, is not suicide, as discussed in your red herring. How do you not understand this?
"After each homicide, we obtained data from the police or medical examiner and interviewed a proxy for the victim. The proxies' answers were compared with those of control subjects who were matched to the victims according to neighborhood, sex, race, and age range..... After controlling for these characteristics, we found that keeping a gun in the home was strongly and independently associated with an increased risk of homicide (adjusted odds ratio, 2.7; 95 percent confidence interval, 1.6 to 4.4). Virtually all of this risk involved homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance." https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199310073291506 Gun ownership is a risk factor for homicide in the home regardless of race.
The way it hurts most of you anti gun activists is at the ballot box where us gun owners vote a against the leftwing gun hating politicians. And it is THIS HURT that motivates most of the anti gun schemes that left-wingers try to enact.
None of which changes the fact that Arthur Kellermann openly admitted, in his own paper, that those who were engaged in illegal activity were more likely to be shot than those who were not engaged in illegal activity. This is especially so since the proxies were selected from low-crime areas, while those who were shot while committing illegal activity were in known high-crime areas.
1. There is no such thing as a suicide victim. 2. Wide spread depression is hurting all races. This is a mental health issue not a gun control issue.
I think minority cities isn't entirely accurate. In that the violence is gang related not minority related. All i mean is that it's a gang problem not a minority problem. Take gangs out of the picture and American crime statistics drop exponentially. Making America way down the list on crime and gun crime.
