Oh right. So when was it last reauthorized? The difference is, the fund is running out of money, right?

It is a shame and disgusting that victims, like here at 9/11, and here first aid personal has to fight for or recognition and assistance from the state.. Every idiot knows that the dust that was formed during the collapse of the WTO Towers was highly toxic and attackes the lung and thus the entire health. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case, neither in the US nor in other countries.
When massive quantities of uranium ammunition were fired in the Gulf in 1991 and US soldiers had the corresponding sypmthomes, they still have to fight for help and compensation until now ... and every student knows that Uranium is highly toxic too!
For me in my country, former soldiers who sat on the radar screens in the 1960's, and where 7 out of 10 sickened with cancer, still struggle to the point that they get help and compensation ... even though it was even then well-known that the screens of these days savers radiate heavy!

But disgusting I find again this trolling of the righties here, because how could it be otherwise, that everything is only the evil Democrat blame!
Sorry ... John Stewart attacked the entire Congress for his indifference, not just the democartic members of Congress. And does one of the people, who as always complain to the Democrats, think that there were enough republican members of the congress, eh?
As Stweart clearly states, these people have been fighting for over 18 years to fight for recognition and help ... and in those 18 years we've had Bush Jr. = Republicans, Obama = Democrat 8 years, and Trump = Republicans for more than 2 years in the White House!

To date, many of the first responders to fight with the health consequences. In 2001, a Victim Compensation Fund was set up for them, after long debates in Washington he was given new funds only in 2011 and again in 2015 ... who was there US President and why it had lasted from 2001 to 2011 and Bush Jr did not do anything, eh?
Now these are almost exhausted - and the fight for finances starts again.

Why does the federal government need to pay people even more money for something they did not do?

Well even if it is always reauthorized, isn't the difference this time that the fund was running out of money and it actually needed funding, not JUST reauthorisation?

It is funded as it has always been funded do you actually think the Democrats would not fund it?

I'm sure they would fund it. So are you saying that the funds just don't run out?

Yes, shame on Stewart for using his name and celebrity status to get aid for 9/11 first responders( American heroes)...what a jerk! (sarcasm alert for righties)

Why didn't YOU go before Congress and get help for them....I'm sure it would've drawn LOTS of attention from the media.

Getting attention is what gets things done...

They'll invite Rush and Hannity when they want to hear rightwing gibberish.

Why aren't Rush and Hannity fighting for 9/11 responders???????

Well at some point they will jot be necessary and as those afflicted die from whatever causes the amount necessary will decrease. So you are saying we will have to fund this for 100 years and more?

Good question. This may have been orchestrated by Stewart and members of Congress for "good press". A way to show that tearful Americans come to Washington DC and demand things be done and then action is taken....You know, Congress proves they are working for the country and here is the proof. They were going to pass it anyway.

Meanwhile, the victims of the San Bernadino terrorist attack are saddled with millions in medical bills and have been forgotten after promises were guaranteed to take care of them. It was all lip service. Why don't celebrities take action against the leaders in CA to correct this injustice?

Not gonna go and quote everyone but I think a few of the issues were thus

1 - With people rotating in and out (I wonder if anyone else is or is made aware of who is going to attend, or if the only way to know who was there was to see them sit) means there is was a Lot of empty chairs, creating the impression to those attending that nobody cared enough to attend (empty seats create a distinct impression)

2 - The fact that it has to be reauthorized at was one of Stewarts issues, as he wanted them to reauthorize it until 2070 or something so that these guys don't have to keep coming back to convince Congress to reauthorize it. It's kind of demeaning to have to constantly remind Congress of their sacrifice for such a important and terrible day in US history. Why not just say 'here, your paid for until you die'?

3 - The reason why celebrities make their opinions known is that they have a voice that many millions more don't have. The media will broadcast their words, which mean they have weight. If Bob from Idaho mattered as much as Jon Stewart, then I doubt you would need celebrities to advocate. Just because they are celebrities doesn't mean they can't offer valid opinions (and nor does it mean we shouldn't dismiss them if they are completely out to lunch in the same manner)
