I heard a little snippet about a buyback program in the democratic debate and it seems people don't really understand why this won't work. The first reason this won't work is it because you don't know who owns guns. And if you did well they would simply report their gun stolen and hide it. The second and probably the most powerful reason this won't work, the amount. First off there's anywhere between 300 million and 500 million guns in the United States and if you were to purchase each gun for the extremely low price of $600 that would be 180 billion dollars. Third a buyback isn't a buyback it's a confiscation. If you don't set the price of your property and someone takes it then gives you what they think is fair they have stolen it. Take for instance if you had a Porsche you bought brand new 5 weeks ago and I said I was going to buy it for fifty bucks you would say to get lost. if I took it and gave you $50 that is theft.
What do the Dems propose about those of us who won't sell our rifles to the government? An "assault weapon buyback" neither removes the "most dangerous weapons", nor does it remove them from the most dangerous people. It is strange that a politician (Biden) would want to confiscate a firearms that accounts for 2% of all gun fatalities (the so called "assault weapons"). It is equally concerning that a person who has served in the military (Buttigieg) does not understand that a AR-15 is not a weapon of war. I wonder if the mayor actually held a weapon of war after he left bootcamp? It would appear that all 20 nominees are equally ignorant in regards as to firearm fatalities and the factors behind them.
It's not a buyback anyway. I never bought guns from the government, so the government buying my guns would not be a buyback.
The term "buy back" is extremely misleading. The money they are using to "buy back" was mine in the first place.
If they OFFER to buy your guns, it's up to you to sell. If they FORCE you to sell your gun, it's confiscation.
They have gun "buy backs" all the time. No questions asked. A criminal can get rid of a murder weapon and get a $100 gift card! ($200. if the name of the gun starts with AR or AK!)
I actually thought about going back and revising that. Their hidden objectives don't actually work either, though. "Sekret plan to implement communism, it'll be great". No, it won't.
Their hidden objectives have the potential to work if not resisted. They know that too, which is why their tactics employ deception, dishonesty, emotional appeals, demonization, Goebles style propaganda, the same that worked for communists in 1917 and the Italians and Nazi’s in pre-WWII. But, given gun ownership and the 2A, are symbols of liberty, individual sovereignty, and their political opposition, disarming that segment of the population serves two main purposes, it both renders them defenseless and then dependent on the collective. Given the current admin, a good analog model is the French Revolution...creating a narrative of class extremes and one resulting in figurative, if not real beheadings of the evil aristocracy depicted in their narratives. But, once the mob is really unleashed, as Robespierre , found to his misfortune along with many of the revolt supporters, they can’t be controlled. The Gun buy back narrative sounds good to those knowing gun ban and confiscation is unlikely given the Constitution and potential for resistance by suggesting a more benign approach of compensating those voluntarily surrendering their guns and deceptively having them subsidize the transition to boot. But, this is America... why the registration of ‘assault weapons’ in a few states is achieving only a 10-12% level of compliance despite the threat of felony charges for non compliance. They misjudged in those states, misjudged in 2016 and will again in 2020. But, vigilance must be maintained and the collective resisted.
They know if they try to implement the social and economic polices they REALLY want, we'll shoot them. So, they want to take our guns.
I think very few of them actually believe the gun ban will fix crime problems. They just think we're stupid.
Still got one hanging around from a group buy that I was going to make into a 70's version 20 in barrel (US AF logo on it) but you cannot find the thin barrel uppers or the triangle guards that easy.
They did a buyback here in WA some years back. Hordes of enterprising individuals set up stands nearby offering a fairer price. So the state ended up buying a bunch of guns no one would want anyway and the rest were sold back to the public for private profit.
The the early 2000's, LA did a buyback. Some enterprising individuals purchased cheap pocket pistols in bulk, and then got 200 bucks for each pistol.
Once they have been used to carry out a murder, thus destroying the evidence and rendering it impossible to solve the crime.
