I found this article on a site called 'Humans Are Free': http://humansarefree.com/2012/03/christian-church-is-biggest-financial.html Quote: “The Catholic church is the biggest financial power, wealth accumulator and property owner in existence. She is a greater possessor of material riches than any other single institution, corporation, bank, giant trust, government or state of the whole globe." Does anyone know if this is all true? I thought the RCC was bankrupt in the US and maybe other places because of the child abuse scandal? I don't know who runs this site but their agenda seems to be very anti-religion.
God doesn't care about any of that wealth, He cares about our hearts. It will all be destroyed some day when the New Earth is created.
God may or may not care, but the people running the church obviously do. Why don't they spend the money on taking care of the poor and disabled?
"Bankers' best guesses about the Vatican's wealth put it at $10 billion to $15 billion. Of this wealth, Italian stockholdings alone run to $1.6 billion, 15% of the value of listed shares on the Italian market. The Vatican has big investments in banking, insurance, chemicals, steel, construction, real estate." http://content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,833509,00.html
They could start a program to help the Central American countries develop their economies and hence solve the problem at source. Come to think of it, the UN or the US could do that too.
If they spend the money on today's problems what will they have left for future problems? If they had spent all of their money 100 years ago, would they have any today? I'm sure that there would still be poor and disabled people. Remember, the 4th Commandment has the God character telling people to bring him the cash. It doesn't concern the poor.
