The problem with some people is they have a biased opinion to make the AR-15 look better than it is and it probably has something to do with their ideas of gun rights, because the AR-15 is the most popular assault type rifle. The performance of a rifle has nothing to do with opinions, it has to do with facts. If you really know how to shoot, shooting expert in the service isn't much of an accomplishment.
Now you're literally just giving a biased opinion. Ironic, huh? I took your argument down in 2 minutes.
When was the last time people were trained using the M 14? I doubt you will find someone doing so after I did when I was at PI from Jan 14 and graduated on time 80 days later. I know for a fact the training was changed around then.
Speaking of "biased opinions" and the problem with some people... You STILL have not answered the question: If the M14 is "far superior" for distance, as you said, why did the Army, Marine and AF marksmanship units, with their resources and skills, switch to the M16 for XTC, Palma and LR service rifle competition? If you do not know - and at this point its obvious you don't - just say so.
Did you think I would not notice your attempt to avoid the issue at hand? I can understand someone wanting to hunt feral pigs by using stupid tactics, but a person setting themselves up properly with the right weapon will kill more of the pests.
It's beyond your capacity to realize, things aren't always done for the best reasons. Has it ever occurred to you that the service also has training reasons for their competitions?

Have you had an AR-15 or been trained with M 14s and M 16s? I doubt it and if you knew anything about target shooting, you would know none of those weapons are the best.
Did you think I would not notice that you -- again -- did not address the issue at hand? Why can't you just admit you;re wrong, and move on?
I don't know how many times your question was answered, you just didn't like the answer. I told you competitions have restrictions and many other reasons. Explain to me how an AR-15 or M 16 can be better than a rifle with a free floating barrel.
Those Marines who were in-country and had been issued the M-14 in boot camp and qualified with the M-14 and were trained using the M-14 in combat weren't happy campers when they were forced to turn in their M-14's for the M-16. The M-14 as the M-1 Garand in combat were used differently than the M-16. With the M-14 you were in a skirmish line and taking deliberate aim at your target, one shot, one kill. Shooting at targets of opportunity. Where as with the M-16, a fire team or rifle squad would fire a large volume of rounds down range into the "beaten zone" where the enemy was believed to be. Re: snipers in Vietnam Actually Sgt. Carlos Hathcock sniper rifle of choice was the Winchester (pre-64) Mod-70 chambered for the 30-06. On his second tour of duty because of logistical reasons and Winchester was no longer using Mauser actions on their Mod-70's after 1963 he used the Remington Mod-700 chambered for the Winchester .308.
Here's another question for all you experts. How many AR-15s can I buy for the same price as one SR-25?
Yes you do: Zero. So, I'll ask again: If the M14 is "far superior" for distance, as you said, why did the Army, Marine and AF marksmanship units, with their resources and skills, switch to the M16 for XTC, Palma and LR service rifle competition? If you do not know - and at this point its obvious you don't - just say so.
Honestly, she's a known troll on my ignore list - but I'm a little bored, so I thought I'd beat up on her a little. It's clear she knows no more about firearms than what she reads on the anti-gun websites.
