Here is a proof: https://thehill.com/homenews/campai...ents-on-trip-to-canada-to-buy-cheaper-insulin Don't be a traitor, buy American products!
Insulin is cheaper in Canada for one reason only. The recovery of cost of research and development is burdened by the US population. The profit for that drug comes from the US, if we go to a universal health care system, then people in Canada will start paying what we pay for drugs. Simple math.
For that to happen we need to give Medicare the freedom to negotiate prices, lest they just keep screwing us..
Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone that has been used as a medication since 98 years ago. I'm pretty sure the drug companies have recouped their R and D by now. That aside. Why should Americans bear the R and D costs for any medication? Would not simple math tell you that if the US negotiated prices down then to maintain profits the drug companies would have to recover some of the R and D costs from negotiations with other countries? As long as drug companies get a free ride in the US they have no incentive to work.
The real reason is that unlike other countries you still allow drug advertising https://qz.com/1517909/big-pharma-s...-on-marketing-in-the-past-20-years-it-worked/ That cost has to be passed on somehow
those 'products' are put out there by many different entities, as are most campaign items, most of which do not get specific endorsement from the candidate nor party, just some entrepeneur lookin to 'cash-in'...
Trouble is there are so few products that are really made in the USA. My local Walmart has a few proudly displaying the stars and stripes but when you look closely it says "Assembled in America from foreign sourced components", or "Made in the USA from globally sourced materials" Iconic companies no longer able to display the "Made in the USA" logo. Harley Davidson, Craftsman Tools, and many Snap-On and DeWalt tools.
I agree with you completely. Perhaps you can get your representative to overturn a law that limits insulin product to only three companies. Want generic insulin? Everyone should. Let the generic manufacturers do it.
Complete nonsense. The largest manufacturer of insulin is not American but Danish - Novo Nordisk. Insulin is cheaper in Canada and all other developed countries because most of them negotiate prices nationally.
Single buyer Australia basically started that and became the pharmaceuticals worst enemy but most other countries followed suit
Many things that you see around were designed and engineered in the USA. The label “Made in China” just means that final assembly is done there at slave wages. Profits stay in the US. Consider electronics - everything is made in China, but where are all major semiconductor companies are? Intel, Broadcom, AMD, etc are all American companies. Where do people that develop, design and market the product are? They are highly paid Americans working in the US. Today, almost all smart electronic devices must pay US companies for semiconductors and software. All major operating systems are American. Major pieces of software are American - MS Office, SQL and lots of middleware. Without American products no business would be able to operate without resorting to pre-PC era. So, in reality, American products are everywhere.
And Dirty Donald and his daughter manufacture all the crap they sell overseas???And until this year half of Dirty Donalds employees were illegals!!!
Hmmm but how many are making money from this? Just the owners of the industry? Shareholders? How about the average joe who just wants a steady wage?
One of the most intellectually lazy/misleading arguments of the year. He still buys American products. He didn't buy THIS American product. This is insane.
Care to venture a guess which country insulin was first used medically in? ****ing Canada. Try again. Insulin was probably the worst example that could be found for your argument, it's like stuffing yourself with straw.
China makes lots of chips. You just don't hear about them because we live in Windows World. Up until just recently they had the fastest supercomputer made with Chinese chips. Huawei chips kill QUALCOMM that's why we keep wanting to punish them. Do you think they run Windows on their military equipment?
A Canadian doctor discovered the treatment of diabetics with insulin in 1920,so American companies did no research to discover it's use.
The ONLY reason it goes up in price is PURE CAPITALIST GREED exactly like that which drove all our manufacturing jobs overseas. Many of our modern ED and birth control drugs were all discovered and developed in Europe.
