Rep. Joaquin Castro, the brother of Julian Castro, (the Presidential candidate), just released an interesting list. It contains the names of the people living in San Antonio, Texas who contributed to Donald Trump's Presidential campaign. He said his reason for releasing this list is just so people can know who is helping Trump spread his message of division and hate. I believe all politicians should be required to publicly list their contributors. Do any of you agree?
Public figures should not be allowed to thrust private citizens' into the spotlight due to their political donations unless there is some sort of legal ramifications, which is not the case here. This is pure liberal sleaze trying amp up the emotion of the moment. Will this dirtbag Castro be accountable if violence is visited upon anyone he listed? There is no net positive for society to releasing the information. It is not the role of our leaders to shame people, but to lead them to a better outcome. This Castro is a disgusting creature, no wonder he has risen high in the DNC...
I believe in the right to be left alone for everyone. I believe what you do with your money, less criminal activity, is your exclusive business. We live in such a politically vicious time I hate seeing politicians, like Castro, trying to terrorize and make targets of private citizens. Hear more than 10% of the people he doxxed were contributors to the Castro boys. Also heard those folks stated they were done with the Castros.
DixNickson, if the NRA was contributing large amounts of money to a particular politician, would you be interested in seeing how that politician votes on gun issues?
After thinking about this issue for awhile, I've changed my mind somewhat. I believe private individuals who contribute money to candidates should remain anonymous, if they so choose. But---corporations(like drug and insurance companies) and special interest groups( like the NRA) should ALWAYS have their contributions made public for all to see. This will let us know whether these politicians are working for their constituents or for their donors.
Well, the list is available on public websites, so it's already law. That said, Castro is doxxing those people, and any that are illegally harassed or hurt should sue him for damages/charge him with conspiracy to harm them.
I've heard there are lots of people who are upset with Rep. Joaquin Castro for doing this. How about the current Presidential candidates? Wouldn't you like to know who all their big corporate and special interest donors are? I would. Especially the ones I'm thinking about voting for.
Yes, it should be reported so that the government and politicians do not commit fraud. What Castro and his idiot Brother are doing is way out of line and actually the reverse of what the law was intended to do. It's just another case of Democrats like Castro warping and abusing the system. BTW, some of those that he outed, were actual contributors to his campaign.
It is nobody's damned business to know who has given campaign contributions to anyone! Forcing this kind of information out is a total invasion of privacy -- a rotten stunt reminiscent of something that would have been done in totalitarian countries where the people have no privacy, or freedom of association.
Of course private citizens' campaign contributions for public elections should be made available by name.
I am always interested in the votes of those who seek to impose on my freedoms and increase their power over me. I would hope and pray that the politician is a constitutionalist who understands the history that created it and will uphold the ideals and laws as written in the constitution. I am an American and a U. S. Military veteran I trust a multitude of my fellow citizens but not the anti-American agenda of many of our elected government leadership and their followers. President Trump, I like, he is no politician. I do not want to lose my country to the Democratic/Socialist/Communist party members currently in Congress and running for the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential nomination. My country is a Republic and I want that form of government and our constitution to be maintained into perpetuity.
There is no Democratic/Socialist/Communist party in America, and I seriously question why anyone would make such a suggestion. Our Constitution is not to govern by the 1789 document, but by the Amendments and the Scotus decisions and laws since then that clarify the document.
I know you don’t need my invitation however you are more than welcome to share yours. I appreciate honesty, be it brutally or diplomatically presented. At the worst we know where each actually stands.
Then look it up. It's already public record. Go to the FEC sites to do that. The thing is, you don't publish a list with veiled threats, which is what Castro did.
They are required to list all donors who give more than $200. It's part of why Obama in his presidential campaign limited online donations to under $200.
And if they donate over $200 it is already public record on public facing websites. The thing that Castro did wrong is the veiled threats and publishing them on twitter with those veiled threats.
You had no valid choices on the poll to explain what I believe. "It is already a public record on public facing websites. There is no need for additional laws on this."
Not veiled at all. It was a call to action against doners. That's the only reason to post that information.
He did nothing illegally, and the great majority of the votership appreciate it what he did. The voters want his taxes released, which they will be soon.
Nothing illegal, just immoral. Veiled threats. If any of the people on the list are harassed, Castro should be charged as an accessory.
There are no threats by Castro, but those comments like yours can be considered threats by some readers. Transparency is good, perdidochas.
