I knew a man that would back the truck up....grab the chute...and walk the concrete in. He always told me to " make it look easy". I worked with him for several years...one day he told me to go work with the carpenters. Ya see this was the south.... and Willie was black. My dad made me work with him and he taught me a lot. We built a kidney stone crusher... Built a hospital addition....a parking garage....a church.... and other stuff...I was a form carpenter...

    Hmm. That is weird.

I usually like being around when I've got contractors out at the house. When we had our fireplace added onto our house the masons had questions for me that I never anticipated, and if I hadn't been there in person I might not have gotten what I wanted.

PS. I did concrete work when I was putting myself through college and it can be exhausting. Many a time I would come home from work and take a long hot bath to keep from tightening up and getting sore. The only job I ever had that was tougher than that was when I did a short stint as a longshoreman in Seattle before heading up to work at a salmon fishery up in Nushegak, Alaska.

Front form is off. This is before finishing the surfaces.

    Likely story.
Probably closer to the truth was you were eyeballing the workers.

Concrete isn’t the best of trades. It hard on the body. Old time concrete finishers can hardly stand up straight.
Concrete is the only thing I will hire out, roofing comes in a close second. Roofing isn’t very exciting.

This was my project last weekend ... rehabilitating an old rock garden along side our driveway. You guys may remember me whining about the fact that I had to move a pile of compost from behind the new fence to in front of it before I could finish the fence. Well here's the picture of that pile of compost in the old rock garden just in front of the new fence.

    garden 3.JPG

So then we spread the compost out in the garden, planted hydrangeas, and I laid in a little path from the driveway to the lawn.

It was a lot of work for my old creaky back, but I enjoyed it anyways.

Afterwards, a couple of good IPAs helped.

I re-roofed my house once about 30 years ago. It was hard ass work back then. Out of the question now. About 2 years ago I re-roofed it again. I hired it out that time. No regrets. Those guys had the whole job done in 2 days. Watching that crew work was like watching a bee hive at work. Total efficiency, and they did a helluva good job. Cost me, but worth every penny.

I’m a big fan of the IPA. I’ve always said beer solves more problems than it has ever caused. Mankind might have very well exterminated itself by now if it weren’t for beer.

Today they have crews { Mexicans } that do complete roof jobs
on 2 houses in ONE Day.I didn't believe it until I saw it firsthand.
They did my house in about 6 hrs.Which included complete cleaning
up of the area.Granted they have special roof equipment that uses
power tools to punch in the roof nails.Plus roof shingles that are grouped
together not single shingles. The roofing material is delievered days ahead.

And consistent with that sentiment, Smartie’s Bar is the best place on PF.

I don't understand it.This Trendy trend of beer consumption.
Like these Botique Breweries.I'll remind one that during the Ford
adm. Air Force One had put in Refrigerators { very expensive } to
stock up on COORs beer.Since it was only available in 11 states.
    West of the Mississippi river.
    I Homebrewed for about 6 years.Made 3-4 batches a year.
I never liked IPA because they all tasted too Bitter.
Now it's some sort of Beer fashion statement. To be seen holding an
IPA.Plus the Millennials who drink the stuff can't even afford new cars.
Make a new bicycle.Or new Tattoo.
Whatever happened to Real men who Drank real beer like American
Pilsners.Had butch haircuts. The occasional Tattoo { usually some
sailor stuff or boxing gloves }.Maybe Goofy Crazed cartoon character.

I'm pretty happy about the yard. It's so small that I don't have any place to put excess dirt. My yard is already too high. I wish that someone would come by in the middle of the night and steal the top six inches of it.

Retirement is fantastic stress reduction therapy. I haven't felt this good in years.

The pills didn't bother me at all.
