Boot joined CNN’s Anderson Cooper to talk about a column he wrote last week to decry a 2018 poll in which 55 percent of white people said anti-caucasian discrimination has become as big a problem as discrimination against black people and other minorities. This incurred a response from the Review‘s John Hirschauer, who said Boot fanned “the flames of racial hatred,” called him one of “the self-loathing whites,” says Boot is peddling “grievance politics.”

Boot and Hirschauer have exchanged fire in dueling columns over the last few days, and when Boot appeared on CNN to talk about this, he explained that “there’s this victimhood complex which has taken root among many whites,” which Trump exploits among his supporters. Boot argued that white people need to break away from this mindset, which prompted Cooper to remark that “conservatives used to make fun of Democrats and liberals for a victimhood mentality.”

A Republican state lawmaker from Nebraska is gaining attention for calling out the GOP for “enabling white supremacy in our country” after a mass murderer with racist motivations killed 20 people and injured several others in El Paso, Texas.

State Sen. John McCollister of Omaha accused President Trump of stoking “racist fears in his base,” in a Twitter thread demanding Republicans speak out against white nationalism and condemn President Trump.

The Republican Party is enabling white supremacy in our country. As a lifelong Republican, it pains me to say this, but it’s the truth.
I of course am not suggesting that all Republicans are white supremacists nor am I saying that the average Republican is even racist.

 

Nebraska’s Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts appeared to respond to McCollister on Monday afternoon with his own series of tweets, although he did not refer to the legislator by name.

“White supremacy and racism have no place in our country, and they must be driven out. I have said this repeatedly and will say it again and again,” Ricketts tweeted.

 

Well of course he'd say that. Nebraska is 87.9% white.
Places like that far to the north don't see any problem.
