Shut up and sing. When will these stars learn that getting involved with politics ruins careers. Dixie Chicks went up in smoke, Oprah lost her TV show and now miss Swift seems intent on fading into oblivion. Stupid kid.

"In an interview with The Guardian, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter spoke about her stance on abortion and how she thinks President Trump is tearing the country apart.

“We’re a democracy – at least, we’re supposed to be – where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate,” she said. “I really think that [Trump] thinks this is an autocracy.”

She's getting a bit chubby. She can always get a spot on the View with the other TDS harpies.

They know their audience and can get away with espousing conservative views. Dixie Chicks, Oprah and now Swift depend on not alienating half their audience. Not a good career move.

How is trump keeping her or anyone from disagreeing and debating?

And how is it close to an autocracy? He’s repeatedly told congress to act on issues like immigration, healthcare etc

So it's okay for celebs to espouse opinions if you agree with them.

    That's what I figured.

I'm merely commenting on the stupidity of Swift doing this at the height of her career and how she learned nothing from what happened to the Dixie Chicks and Oprah. Got it now?
Shut up and sing miss Swift or go to Europe with the Dixie Chicks

So all of a sudden freedom of speech is a no-no in conservative land.

    That figures.

I personally couldn't give a sh*t what Swift has to say either way.

Never said she can't express her opinion but she does so at great risk to her career. Dixie Chicks? Hmmm haven't heard from them in years. Lol

Shut up and sing little girl

Dixie chicks had a much bigger conservative audience as Country Music entertainers ... Swift couldn't give a flying ****,
her audience is more young people and liberal to begin with - and they are more rabid than even Trump FanBoys about her.
She might loose 5% of her audience.

    Who cares?

The thing that's funny to me is that conservatives don't like people expressing themselves...just more partisan hypocrisy as usual.

Also, she's 29, and you are calling her a kid and a little girl.

Seeing as you're such a big fan...or were....here you go:

Taylor Swift: Country Music’s ‘Shut Up and Sing’ Mentality Kept Her From Speaking Out Politically

    https://theboot.com/taylor-swift-country-music-shut-up-and-sing/

“I come from country music. The number one thing they absolutely drill into you as a country artist, and you can ask any other country artist this, is ‘Don’t be like the Dixie Chicks!’” Swift explains, referring to how the country trio was blackballed from the industry after Natalie Maines criticized then-president George W. Bush shortly before the invasion of Iraq.

“I watched country music snuff that candle out. The most amazing group we had, just because they talked about politics. And they were getting death threats," Swift continues. "They were made such an example that basically every country artist that came after that, every label tells you, ‘Just do not get involved, no matter what.’"

    Exactly.

Any comparison between The Dixie Chicks and Taylor Swift (in the context of the OP) is horribly misguided and beyond ludicrous.

Swift just won the Video of the Year (last night), she couldn't care less what the RW thinks about her.

Demographics, son. Most of her fans grew up with her. They aren't going to dump her just because she badmouths dickhead Trump.

I've read his posts and he has said nothing of the kind. In fact, I'd say you're unfairly mischaracterizing his stand. His view is that she's free to say whatever she likes so long as she knows that alienating parts of her audience comes part and parcel with doing so. Dolly Parton has explained why she doesn't discuss politics before - and I'd say her take on it is pretty smart.

And let's face it, she IS free to say whatever she wants as well as being free to take the financial hit that goes along with it. So - I don't see where he's said he doesn't like her expressing herself at all. What he IS saying is that Freedom of Speech =/= Freedom from Consequences.

I said conservative country folks don't like people expressing their views when they don't align with theirs...

clearly that's true as that's what this thread is all about.

All of a sudden, freedom of speech is a no-no with conservative country folks...they'll try to ruin your career like they did with the Dixie Chicks.

    Right?

Lol, no. This will not kill Taylor Swift's career.

I have always held huge respect for Taylor Swift for minding her own business and focusing on music rather than politics (as every other celebrity feels the urge to do). I also admire her for being her genuine talent; she writes her own music, plays instruments and can actually sing. Mostly, my respect for her rests on her setting promiscuity and nudity aside and just being herself. Her Pro Choice statement won't change my view.

    Leave Taytay alone! :D
