Tell me why comparing the actual occurrence data of one danger to another is not a legitimate method to determine the overall threat to the overall population.
Mhmm. So a 80yr old who dies in a vending machine mishap, has the same impact as a 7yr old blown apart in a classroom? wtf.
So you actually believe if their access to so called assault looking rifles was cut off, the perps would simply forget about committing a mass killing?
You have a very active imagination, although your honestly leaves more than a little to be desired. As you have no data, or logical reason to state that there is a massive age difference in victims based on method of death, lets make it more reasonable and say something that actually has a little fact behind it. Assuming both causes of death effect age groups equally, is 30 deaths by gunfire more significant 60 deaths by being crushed by vending machine?
Mass shootings. Not "gun deaths" pig farmer. Might buy time for intervention in some cases and yes, prevent some altogether. At any rate the death count would be less.
I doubt it very seriously. The fact is that most of these incidents show a lot of pre-planning and resourcefulness. These AK type weapons that everyone wants to ban are not cheap, especially for students. The fact they can obtain them shows me they would successful obtaining other means to achieve their goals. If they tuned to chemistry instead of guns they would most likely find much more lethal means to perform attacks.
5.56 fragments when it hits common building materials, and therefore limits penetration, over handguns (or pistol caliber carbines), and shotguns. The added benefit is it does this with low recoil and higher capacity magazines. Also, not being held to the Geneva convention expanding soft point bullets are preferred to FMJ. https://gundigest.com/article/why-an-ar-15-for-home-defense-is-the-best-choice http://preparedgunowners.com/2016/0...for-home-defense-fbi-overpenetration-testing/
No it isn’t. Self defense and a counter to tyranny is why the 2nd amendment exists. Hunting and target shooting are just the icing on the cake.
Its a man wounder. The 5.56 (which the .223 is a slightly less powerful civilian version of) was designed for battle with the Russians during the coldwar. Previous battle rifles were chambered in the 30 caliber range, which were designed for lethality. The 5.56/.223 will more often wound than kill. The doctrine being: a wounded soldier is more expensive than a dead one because he has to be transported and treated, costing additional manpower and resources. It was estimated in my strategy courses in college ROTC that a wounded soldier is similar in cost to the enemy as 3 dead soldiers (assuming a 'civilized' enemy that cares for their wounded). As I understand it, the legal minimum bullet diameter for hunting deer (and larger) is .24 (24 caliber) because, while a .223 will generally, eventually, kill a deer, it will likely be a slow, painful death from blood loss, instead of the quick death a larger bullet is likely to cause. The next bullet size is a .243, which was specifically designed for hunting deer, and while the bullet is only .02" larger, it has substantially more powder propelling it, which increases the energy transfer to target, and thusly, the trauma and likely speed of death. To summarize, we hunt with the goal of killing quickly because we like to think we're humane, but we battle with the goal of killing slowly, because economics win more wars than ethics.
how many ar-15's do you own? no one is talking about any other guns than those be considered the same as machine guns
do you support ex-felons having their rights denied, rights have to protect the least among us or they become privileges rather than rights
BS. Show me one piece of legislation that bans the AR-15 and nothing else. The AK and the Min-14 are both capable of firing the same bullet, at the same speed, with the same rate of fire with the same magazine capacity. Precisely the same lethal potential (maybe higher if you consider the superior reliability of piston-driven autoloading).
if so, they're morons. Even most mass shootings are perpetrated with handguns. They just dont get televised because they're gang-related in poor minority areas (voters dont care).
There has been complaints that the 5.56mm round that the military uses is underpowered since the M-16 was adopted. We adopted it so we could have a standardized round across NATO, making cooperation across member nations easier. The 7.62mm or .308 round in civilian weapons is a much more lethal round.
You can keep your guns. What we want to do is pass a law that says if you sell your guns to someone else without doing a backgroiund check, and that person turns out to be a criminal or nutjobs, you go to prison.
Their TOOLS would be limited... We HAD an assault weapons ban and mass shootings declined during that period and exploded when it was lifted
