McCain would have received far less votes in the general without Palin on the ticket. She spoke before thinking but her willingness to defy political correctness appealed to many the same as that trait in Trump does. Palin is no dumber than 90% of those seeking the Democratic nomination this year.

McCain was hated by working class Republicans for years before winning the primary. Nobody wanted to vote for him and a lot didn’t.

Yep! Thank God Palin is back in Alaska not interfering in national politics anymore she is dealing with her hubby who filed for divorce. That's what I heard.

First of all, the exit polling data suggest that there is a sizable portion of the electorate that were former Obama voters. Meaning, they preferred the previous POTUS over any of his challenger. As such, the data suggest a sort of buyers remorse from the previous administration; Palin is mostly irrelevant. This doesn't suggest that Trump was better than Obama; rather, people were so disappointed in their previous leaders that they were willing to risk their chances with a salesman, even though they don't know the product they're getting.

Secondly, the purpose of exit polling is not to make predictions. The purpose is merely to gather descriptive statistics on the types of voters.

That's not even a hypothesis; that is just conjecture...

Oh I don't think so. That new 'cult leader' is a once in a generation phenomena. I think establishment GOP are terrified that Trump will hold on to his supporters anyway he can as his only base of power and influence , and he make it very difficult for the party to move away from the white nationalism/ anti immigrant protectionism they have embraced. Just when they think he is finally too old to hold much sway, Donald Jr will be causing them endless grief as the heir apparent. This division between the establishment GOP and Trumpism is going to be hanging around for a very long time.

I think the GOP’s only hope is to move more centrist and try to swing back some voters. If I am reading the signs right there is a growing dissatisfaction among GOP voters

Trump will not have enough followers after his defeat next year to field a baseball team.

Yes and each and every one of them will be denying that they ever supported him. Some of the support comes from a belief that there is a peer group think, something encouraged by Fox. This is why there is so much emphasis on “big rally’s” with “lots of people” and the listed crock “30% of the people at Trump rally’s were Democrats”.

Maybe 3% of the people at Trump's rallies are registered Democrats.

Until they are removed, TurnerAshby. Gorsuch, though, may be allowed to stay. He seems cowed.

You're crazy if you seriously think the Democrats are going to remove any of the Supreme Court members. Remember, the Democrats won't always be in a position of power. They will not want to set a precedent of impeaching Supreme Court nominees because you disagree with their positions.

Same reason that Trump will not be prosecuted for anything once he leaves office.

I personally would love to go with a group of like minded people with sound recorders secreted about our persons so when Trump says something outlandish you just trigger the device to shout BULLSHIT! It would be hard to track in a crowd and no one mould see your lips moving so........

So, dems will just introduce term limits for the Supreme Court members. Or maybe they will increase the size so they can stuff more nominees onto the bench

To be honest a Centrist move makes sense, considering how hard the left wants to go left.

They won't do anything of the sort.... All these ideas like Medicare for all gun by backs impeaching Kavanugh are plain and simple pipe dreams to those of us who actually follow politics

First he will spin this loss as a stolen election . On one side he will talk about all those aliens that were allowed to vote in California and every other liberal Mecca. Then he will turn his fire on the 'establishment' GOP as represented by Fox, who one after another will tire of funding his efforts to file suit after suit in state and federal courts to prevent the Democratic Nominee from a clear unfettered path to the electoral college. He will talk about them as cowards and fair weather allies who undermined him at every turn, refusing to support him and his 'Make America Great Again' coalition and he will carry a very large disillusioned and angry bunch of white Archie Bunker white nationalist conservative voters who will neither forgive the GOP for their betrayal, nor leave the party that represents their only broad successful path to power.

Plus impeaching Kavanugh takes 67 votes and the largest majority in the Senate from 1969-2019 was 64.... It's just useless redmeat to hopefully energize Democrats

The third is transient but the first two are waaaaay more popular than you think

As with most things it is a little more complicated than you are making out

No I'm being realistic while those championing such ideas are making it seem easier to do than it will actually be..... For example look at aca passage, was that easy? So why would any of the above ideas be easier?

I think the thread starter posted a question far too early. There is an awful lot of time to tick until January 2025 when a new president replaces Donny.By the way, it's more likely that DJT nominates another judge to the SC than Dems impeaching Kavanaugh. That's the reality. It hurts, doesn"t it?
