Part of my answer was based on common knowledge that every civilized person enjoys. The other part was based on having read widely and spent much time in the UK. And then, if memory serves, I even gave you a source. I didn't invent any of it.

I guess my counter-question to you would be:

On a planet with 7 billion people, why does procreation have to encompass all 100% of the population, vs the (while not completely accurate due to the lack of a consistent and verifiable statistically sound method of measurement) 90% that its estimated to be (10% estimated to be 'gay').

The current population growth increase per year is around 80 million people. The yearly increase percentage seems to be decreasing but is this due to increasing acceptance of homosexuality? or the increasing comfort in industrialized nations and an overarching change in culture towards having kids.

I personally would posit that it's more due to the overall change in society, especially in places where the standard of living is rising and people are preferring to enjoy their lives as individuals, rather the shifting to a 'parental' role (and as someone with 2 young kids (3 and 5 y/o)) I can somewhat understand why others would think this way.

Ultimately though, coming back to the OP Question: Is it a perversion? Only if you see sex as a means to an end (procreation), vs a means unto itself (pleasure). I see it as a means for pleasure, with the added bonus of being one of the ways to help procreate.

Plus, with the burgeoning numbers of parentless children (through various means, intentional and unintentional), i would say more focus should be on getting parentless kids into parented households rather then adding more to those numbers. Kind of like going to breeders for dogs vs going to the pound.
