If that were the truth, then I'd be okay with that, but I do not think the City of Portland is being truthful about the reason for banning urinals. There are several reasons why I feel this way and perhaps you would be so kind as to look at the reasoning and consider changing your position. First, why did the City of Portland use the term 'ban'. If it was design efficiency, then use the term design efficiency. If it was for greater flexibility, then explain it. Second, if it was simply a matter of design efficiency, then why is the City Council unwilling to say a single word to the press about this? Design efficiency is a defendable stance. A ban as a political statement is not defensible and if you have an indefensible position, you should say nothing. Third; do not forget that this is a $179,000,000 dollar remodel of a 29 million dollar building. If you are spending 179,000,000.00 dollars, I would hope they would get it right the first time and not have to have yet another redesign for a future round of musical chairs, or in this case, musical toilet seats. Finally, one could almost excuse the City's tone deaf response to simple questioning of the motives for this change if it was an isolated incident or it was happening in a vacuum. But it isn't happening in a vacuum. The Democratic Party of Oregon has gone full hostile towards males in general and white males in particular. Governor Kate Brown turned down several dozen men for a position on the State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors for a position which desperately needed to be filled. The land surveyors managed to get an audience with the governor and they were told that the position was not going to be filled with a white male. (Her actual words were we needed to find a woman or a member of a minority race.) In the face of the official platform plank of animosity towards males held by the Democratic Party of Oregon, then it seems exceptionally reasonable to ask the City Council of Portland, who are all Democrats, if this is just another snotty lashing out at those who they see as the oppressors. Of course, if you can come up with alternate explanation using all the facts at your disposal, I am willing to listen to you.
The city obviously would need to conduct public city building and planning hearings for any variances or proposed amendments to model building codes. I would urge interested parties to obtain the times and dates and be present to voice any opposition. I don't see that simply banning urinals by city council edict would be enough to change other established and adopted building codes without additional public hearings and possible State preemption.
This Michael Graves designed Portland government building was a hideous post modern joke when it was approved and built in the 1980's. The fact that it is being rebuilt now does not surprise me in the least. Graves was a trendy architect who thought he was a great visionary. Most post modern design now looks dated and outlandish. This particular building made a lot waves in the design community when it was built. Some architects jumped on the band wagon with other crazy buildings but none have any class. They don't follow rules that make a building stand the test of time, classical elements. It is not a famous building. It is cheap trash with a huge price tag. https://www.citylab.com/design/2019/06/portland-building-michael-graves-architecture-oregon/592603/
Why not the French approach to urinal design? https://www.thelocal.fr/20170131/paris-gets-new-green-urinals-to-civilise-street-peeing
They ban them for equality. Women have to sit down to pee so therefore men should to. It's woke. They don't realize men are just going to stand up the piss in the toilet. It's biological advantage men have it's not going to go away because you say I'm not certain fixture. That's the only reason I can think of. I remember about a year ago there were some European feminazis bitching about men being able to stand up to pee. Nothing else makes sense.
shouldn't really matter to anyone how or where someone goes to the bathroom, in fact most of us have no urinals in our private homes so why would it matter in public? If men are offended that their are no urinals, then hold it until you either you find a place that has one, or go into the woods and do what you have to do.
I guess you like sitting in piss when you have to take a s***. Most people don't. How do you get your jollies by all means I don't judge. I will probably just piss in the toilet standing up, splattering piss everywhere and then someone have to clean that up. That's really the reason there are urinals. And guys probably aren't going to care.
If you are too lazy to clean the seat before using it, that's your problem, not mine. I guess 1. you don't lift the seat; 2. you don't clean the piss of your toilet at home then; well its your house and if you want to live that way its your business. How you get your jollies by all means I don't judge.
I prefer to pee outside as well. My theory is if you’re worried about anybody seeing, you are living in an over populated area.
Stupid gonna stupid. I don't mind the design of the building, looks like it should be the HQ of Capital Records or something.
yeah I always carry bathroom cleaning supplies with me. That makes all kinds of sense. I don't share my home bathroom with the public.
My thought exactly This lot don’t know they are alive! Out here it is 60 k between toilets (literally that is how far apart the truck stops are). Many of those are Earth closets and if you choose the side of the road then watch out for the spear grass
That we can piss standing up is proof that if there's a God, he is into toxic masculinity and the patriarchy.
I saw those in-the-floor toilets in Japan. They were on one side of the restroom, and there was a long gutter kind of thing along the other wall. Men and women in the same rest room.
I have to say, that's a really stupid proposal. I think things are getting a little out of hand. What I've noticed about males and sit-on toilets is that many don't have good aim and many are afraid to touch the seat while at the same time assuming they have good aim. If I was a woman, I would insist that Portland reconsider because I would not want to sit on that.
Interesting but they must have run out of the ice that they stored packed in straw in caves. What exactly was the ice for? To keep the ammonia fumes down?
Yep! But unless you pick a clear spot there is still the spear grass. It the reason Dingoes don’t bark they howl
Isn't it strange that what a guy holds in his hand isn't much larger than the piping in the photo, yet guys still miss.
