Throw in Neil Peart from Rush too. The difference is that Baker started out with jazz chops integrated into his style, while Peart learned them after he became a star. Baker also spent time in perhaps the most musically creative place in the world in 1971 - Lagos, Nigeria. That he earned the respect of giants such as Fela Kuti and pioneering Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen says something about just how good Baker was. He could adapt & learn not only across styles, but across cultures, in this case perhaps the most important culture for percussion. An extraordinarily difficult person, but a supremely talented one.

I saw Geddy Lee on TV recently saying Rush is finished. Didn't know why. Now I do. Not a drumming expert but Neil is often mentioned as the greatest rock and roll drummer ever.
The 2020 Grammys In Memoriam segment from last night. It seemed like there were more than usual. Did they miss anybody:

Yeah, Kenny Rogers died in his sleep... ,,, when dey found him he had... ... his hands folded on his chest... ... cause he always said... ... 'Ya got to kinow when to hold `em... ... know when to fold `em.'
I have a friend who sold equipment to Kenny Rogers in his post big-time years. Not sure if Kenny built hotels or restaurants or whatever. I don't think he ever met him in person but at one time was on the phone with him quite frequently. He didn't have anything good to say about him. Unlike his public persona he seemed to be a pretty nasty guy. Not sure whatever the outcome was but many years ago he was accused of being what used to be called an obscene phone caller.
