If you have an all-electric car in Sonoma you might be wanting to junk it for a gas guzzler. Are you listening AOC. Pump that Texas tea. Frack that reserve. SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — More than a million people in California were without electricity Wednesday as the state’s largest utility pulled the plug to prevent a repeat of the past two years when windblown power lines sparked deadly wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes.
When we will all drive electric cars in 25 years, you'll be still shaking your fist at the sky and rant about the bad lefties killing the ICE-powered car.
What ever vehicle we drive in 25 years will still need the petroleum based grease for the wheel bearings. And as we know, grease is nothing but oil with an added thickener.
Cheaper to just put solar panels on your roof and then you ALWAYS have a full tank whenever you leave home.
Oil for lubrication can be synthesized, you know? The synthesis just need other energy sources. Plus, the ICE engine and drive train have 2000+ movable parts, the electric engine has 20, with virtually no gearbox. You'd save a lot of lubrication and gain a lot of reliability.
But the lefties, forever in denial and refusal of reality, will simply say that we have a huge reserve of fatty oils / grease that can always be tapped with liposuction if needed. These people create answers for anything.
Some form of electrically assisted vehicle is inevitable. The all electric versions will be the last to arrive. Until then, I will enjoy the startup sounds of a twin turbo 3 liter engine rumbling through a Dinan exhaust system.
You can also use gravity assist if you live in a mountainous area. But you need gasoline to get to the top of the mountain -- just like you need supplied electricity to charge an electric assisted car.
If liberals got their 'no fracking' ban instituted, you wouldn't be driving anything since your beloved electricity is generated by natural gas which comes from fracking. Nor will you have a computer or phone either since the plastics they are made out of comes from fracking. 'We'....maybe you and a few libs....but the vast majority of people will still be driving petro burners for the next 100 years.
Only when we run out of charge early. I am looking forward to electrics. Not as much to worry about mechanically. As soon as I can get an electric car with 150 mile range with A/C at under $20K in 2018 dollars, I will get one. It would be a great commuter car.
True. And you can run an internal combustion engine on vegetable oil. That means a large vegetable garden for the country. Only in America do we use food to propel our vehicles.
The solar on many peoples homes in California will negate this. It’s all the more reason we need to shift subsidies from oil and coal to solar.
I don’t know if we will ever see a new electric car under 20k (pre subsidy), however, if you qualify for the tax credit you can get the SMART EQ FORTWO for just 17k @ 124/94 MPGe.
Well, that's the way I am with technology. I'm not an early adopter, but I'm not a resister either (well, except for flat screen TVs). I decide what the reasonable performance for money is. I remember waiting on buying a digital camera. This is almost 20 years ago, but I was waiting for 1MP for under $100. Eventually got it.
No, they will be all electro magnetic hover crafts and the new power plants will be powered by dilithium crystals mined on Rigel..
